Outfitter Review: Double C Ranch - TX

Outfitter / Owner: Jeff Myers

Hunter: Jon Gross

Animals Hunted: Exotics/Pigs

I've been guiding big-game hunts for over twenty years. This is, by far, the most professional, well-run operation I've seen on this continent. Jeff and his staff are absolutely the most professional, courteous, friendly group I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. I brought a couple of hunting buddies for a vacation/hunt and we had an absolute blast; we can't wait to come back; we even want to bring our wives. I have also put together a group of 8-10 fellow hunters/friends who want me to book a hunt for all of us in the spring.

Outfitter Review: Oran Hill Outfitters - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Oran Hill

Hunter: Bob Vila

Animals Hunted: Whitetail

The camp house is about 200 years old and rotten. I'd rather sleep on the ground. I see more deer in cities than at Oran Hill Outfitters. We did not see any deer at all, all Oran worries about is the money. The guide is the worst i have ever seen, my mom knows more about hunting than he does and she doesn't hunt. The feeders don't work very well either. If you are interested in rabbit hunting its an awsome place. But if you want to throw away your money go to Oran Hill Outfitters.

Outfitter Review: Solana Ranch - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Kirk Michaux

Hunter: Dave Dykstra

Animals Hunted: Whitetail/ Hogs

Our group of 13 bowhunted this ranch in October of 2004. Peanut Campbell and the Shepard brothers were a blast to hunt with. They are excellent guides and kept it fun for all of us. The food ranged from Texas BBQ to prime rib, and was exceptional every night. The bunkhouses are clean and modern. Very comfortable. The terrain is Texas hill country. Beautiful, with many oaks and cactus. Deer and hogs are plentiful. Most hogs were seen at dark, but the deer moved throughout the day when we were there. Some hunters saw shooters everyday. Others didn't see many. But everyone at least saw a trophy.8 out of 13 hunters harvested bucks. The bucks ranged from 100 to 135 class P&Y. 2 others shot bucks that weren't retrieved. We drug out 4 hogs, with many others not found. We also harvested 10 does. We definately filled up their walk- in cooler. Many of us plan on returning next year, and all of us had a ball this year. I feel the Solana Ranch is an excellent value for the money, and would highly recommend them.

Outfitter Review: Cougar Run Ranch II - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Hal Newsom

Hunter: Karl Wallace

Animals Hunted: Hogs & Exotics

A friend and I hunted this place in August 03' and we both considered this is an excellent bowhunting only operation. There were lots of hogs and numerous shooting oppotunities ( your allowed three hogs of any size per day ). In the end, we took four hogs and one ram during our day hunt. I shot and missed two more hogs, and my buddy failed to recover an additional hog. The place has exotics for an additional trophy fee. The fallow bucks and the rams looked good. The red deer bucks that were seen were immature, and no buffalo were present. James ( the guide ) and his wife were very good host and did a good job with game recovery and cleaning. Overall,we had a good time and will go back in the future.

This is the fourth time that I have been to North Texas Outfitters and the place is amazing. Don is an awesome guide! I took my nephew out there with me and we saw just about every type of game on the ranch. I took a real nice Fallow buck and a painted dessert ram with my bow. The ram scored a silver medal in the Record of Exotics, almost a gold. There prices are excellant and I can't wait to go back again. You need to call Paul and Don and get a hunt set up. www.ntohunt.com

Went to Bar E year it openedand the place was immaculate. It really suprised me that my return trip 07-04 camp was looked just the way I left it. Very clean. Marvin the ranch manager is great, very experienced hunter to say the least. Now to the animals, saw some 36 inch axis, a monster texas dahl and black hawaian equally impressive. I'm not a sheep hunter but almost had to throw my bow to the ground to keep from taking a shot a the Dahl sheep, he is huge!!! Say some really good fallows, overall great place and you cant go wrong hunting this ranch. Money and vacation days well spent. Oh yeah he has some monster red stags!

Outfitter Review: Trans-Pecos Guide Service - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: G. Wayne Zachary

Hunter: JT "Bubba" Brown

Animals Hunted: Whitetail deer, javelina

"Zach" runs a top drawer hunt. The outfitter stresses quality on his hunts and it is reflected in the trophies collected off his properties in the last several years. The entire experience with Zach is memorable to say the least. The camps are comfortable and the cook is tremendous. When one leaves one of Zach's ranches, he feels as though he has had a "hunting experience" and not just a hunt. Harvesting a great trophy is certainly on the list when I go hunting, but the experience is probably foremost on my list. Trans-Pecos provides that unique experience that one looks for in a west Texas hunt. Call him for a hunt, you will not be sorry!!!

Outfitter / Owner: Irvin Pense

Hunter: Tony DiLello

Animals Hunted: Whitetail Deer

I have hunted with Shamrock Safaris on four different occasions and enjoyed each one. Irvin picks his clients up at the Amarillo Airport (where others usually charge for transportation or you have to rent a car) and makes sure that everybody stays happy. This is not your typical fenced-in Texas hunt, everything is fair-chase and nothing is guaranteed. Camp conditions are wonderfull, two full baths, separate kitchen, and satellite TV. I have no problem recommending this hunt.

Outfitter / Owner: Edmund Tom

Hunter: RON SHANNON

Animals Hunted: HOG/ TURKEY

MAY '04 WAS MY SECOND VISIT TO THE E.TOM RANCH, AND JUST LIKE MY FIRST IN SEPT.'03, IT WAS VERY ENJOYABLE. BOTH TRIPS TO THE RANCH EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS IN ALL AREAS. I HUNTED HOGS ON BOTH TRIPS WITH SUCCESS. FOR AN OFF-SEASON HUNT OR WITH A PACKAGE, YOU CAN'T BEAT HOG HUNTING WITH THE E.TOM RANCH. BESIDES KEEPING YOUR HUNTING SKILLS SHARP YOU CAN ALSO FILL THAT EMPTY SPACE IN YOUR FREEZERS. THIS PAST MAY I ALSO TRIED MY LUCK ON A TEXAS TURKEY, WHICH I'M VERY PLEASED WITH THE OUTCOME (28 LBS, 10 INCH BEARD, 1 INCH SPURS). EDMUND AND J.PAT RUN AN EXCELLENT OPERATION AND THE HOSPITALITY IS THE BEST. I WOULD RECOMMEND THE E.TOM RANCH TO ANYONE AND I'M DEFINITELY PLANNING ON RETURNING SOON.

Animals Hunted: Buffalipso

October 2003, went to North Texas Outfitters for my yearly hunt. I have been going there for 6 years and have always taken record book game but this year was to be the hunt of my life! My guide was Don Wade, probably the best guide in the USA. Don and I stalked a broup of Buffalipso, a cross between the Asian Water Buffalo and the African Cape Buffalo, for three days. At times we were stalking them and at times they were charging us. We ran for the truck more than once to keep from being trampled or worse. When I finally got my shot, we had them on one side of a gully and we were on the other side. Took him with a Tompson Contender Single Shot Pistol, 14 inch barrel in .30-.30 caliber. When we got him back to the skinning barn and could not get him up on the hoist we began to wonder just how big he was. As it turns out, it was the #1 buffalipso for the year, and the #1 all time. Thanks to Paul and Don, I now have a Diamond Award World Record Animal. If you are not hunting at North Texas Outfitters, you are wasting time and monney. I'll be there every year until they bury me.

Outfitter / Owner: Hugh Starr

Hunter: Brandt H. Williams, PE

Animals Hunted: Hogs

Weather really sucked for hunting, was exceptionally windy all three days. Did see a very nice 8 pointer on first day which was surprising given the windy conditions, but we were hog hunting. Have no doubt there are lots of hogs and deer as sign was abundant. Has a lot of land to hunt on. Hugh worked hard for us and was very apologetic for us turning up empty handed. Hugh was "tough" to get a conversation going with and is not the most people friendly person in the world, but he is competent guide/outfitter. I feel his pricing structure is slightly above the norm, but as I always say you get what you pay for. There is ample opportunity to harvest quality game with Hugh. If the you are looking for something to do during the long winter months go hunt hog with him.

Animals Hunted: Exotics/hogs

There were 5 hunters in camp. We were mainly after Axis as we had received good feedback from Texas hunters. The other 2 were Texans after Whitetail. 2 hunters had just left WITHOUT tagging anything & had trashed the cabin. We saw no legal Axis Bucks in 5 days of hard hunting at the advise of the owner. 1 Buck seen - 3x2 not legal. I killed a nice Ram on my last evenings hunt (I drove 25 hours to hunt Axis-not sheep)& the 1st animals that had horns or antlers in the 5 days. Hogs were seen mostly at night. 2 were shot & not recovered at dark-under 100#s. The whitetail hunters saw only 1 small buck & a few does with 1 shot at a doe on the 4th day.Lots of Turkeys. This place may be good for Turkeys (spring) & hogs at night. They also have a SHOW pasture that is on a trophy fee basis but the regular archery (4000 acres) leaves a lot to be desired by our experience. None of us will return & we have a lot of bowhunting years among all of us. We do not expect to kill every time we go on a hunt but it would be nice to "SEE" what your after-even from a distance.

Outfitter Review: Texas Outfitters,LTD - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Frank Fackovek

Hunter: Mike Schuster

Animals Hunted: Whitetail

Frank provided a good quality hunt for average sized deer; however, we have a dispute with him because we had paid a premium price of $5500 each for a different hunt than the one which we did, and we do not agree that what we got was of comparable value. To that end, he has been very unprofessional, not only in his misrepresentation of the hunt which he provided, but in his negative response to our disagreement. I say "misrepresentation" because, in his brochure, Frank offers the very same hunt which we did, which was at The Outback Ranch, for $3750 each. He now insists that this hunt was equal in value to an opportunity to be his first ever, and only 2003 hunters, on his new premiere Drop Tine Ranch in Pearsall, which we paid for in advance. Here, he promised us opportunities at 160 plus class deer, which we had originally specified as what we were wanting to hunt. Please see the 2004 prices for a hunt on this ranch! Just prior to our hunting dates, Frank recommended that we move our hunt to the Outback Ranch in response to a notice from me that our father's failing health condition( one of three hunters in our party) could prevent him from being able to climb up into a tower blind. Frank referred to the Outback Ranch by another name(The Lower Ranch)and didn't even tell us that this was one of the regular offerings in his brochure for a lesser price. Being unfamiliar with his operations, we didn't know where we were at that time. The reason why he suggested the move was because (he said))that the cover was too thick at the Drop Tine to hunt from the ground, and this would have been a requirement for our father. Upon finishing our hunt at the Outback Ranch, we visited the Drop Tine and determined that there had been no good reason to move the hunt. Our 2003 hunt was meant to be a dream hunt of a lifetime for my brother and myself, with our father. It would be our only and last chance to do this, and after months of searching, we settled on the unique opportunity to be the first to hunt the Drop Tine Ranch with Frank. Our party grew up in South texas and have hunted deer there since 1956. 47 years later, we have a New Yorker telling us that we are not serious hunters and that we don't know what we got from him. Yes, we do. We want to go on record (according to Frank) as being the first group of hunters who have ever been dissatisfied in their business with him. He immediately reacted negatively and misinterpreted our appeal to reconcile the difference in the hunt. He has refused to agree to any credit for the hunt which we did, and has been very offensive in retaliation to our appeal. The difference in the hunt cost, according to his brochure, was $1,750 each. There will never be an opportunity for us to do this hunt with our Dad again. We regret that we chose to do it with this outfitter, who knows nothing about real Texas manners and hospitality, to say the least. We have kept full documentation of all correspondence with Frank since the initiation of our plan to hunt with him, and a journal was kept of our actual hunt. We regard this a a serious matter.

Arrived on a monday cool temps, north wind. Drove ranch saw 3 sheep 1 fair ram. Followed owners advice on hunt locations. 1St eve I saw 1 hog 200 pd range. Partner saw 6 axis does 1 turkey. Next morning cool temps I saw 1 axis spike, partner saw 0. That eve I saw approximately 15 sheep 3 rams small horns, 1 aoudad ewe, 3 turkey, 8 small pigs 3 pushing 75 pds. I not one to slam anybody but, I personally feel for the price and use of priceless vacation days you would be better off going elsewhere. Very poor hunt. Water holes saw sheep and hog tracks and only several deer tracks. If you look at the website listing for Carta Valley it states protein feed, well I saw no feed at all in protein feeders.

Outfitter Review: M.Y. Ranch - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Walter Stewart

Hunter: Brandt H. Williams

Animals Hunted: Hogs

Weather really messed up hunting the three days we were there. Hogs were in season, deer were out as it was late February. There were five of us and we only saw one group of hogs on a Friday night and a single monster that was harvested on Sunday evening. Plenty of sign, saw loads of female deer, but the weather hurt the hogs. 1000 acres of fair chase land with feeders and various types of stands for still hunting.Accomadations were spartan and you cooked your own meals and bought your own food. The "lodge" as it were is a double wide mobile home, certainly not fancy, but adequate for a bunch of guys looking to go hunting and have good time, without breaking the bank. The best thing about the hunt was that it was a very reasonably priced hunt when compared to everything else that we deemed comparable when we were searching for a new place to hunt. Not withstanding the poor weather, we wouldn't hesitate to go back if our budget was the controlling factor. We had a good time.

300 acres of high fence. Would have to be blind not to see and kill a hog. Everything was wonderful until we received all of our meat. The outfitter recommended the only processor open during the winter. Said he would do a good job and had never had any problems with him before. Meat was shipped in a cardboard box like you would ship bed linens, period. Nothing else, just thrown in the box and shipped. It was a two day ship and all the meat was rancid when it arrived. To his credit the outfitter got us our money back for the processing, but was of absolutely no help in getting us a refund on the shipping. Shipping was substantially more than the processing. Seemed to us like he really dropped the ball. If you go here take you pig with you or be sure to check out the processor personally before you go to him.Initial cost of the hunt was reasonable. Additional hogs were expensive by our book. All in all if high fence hog hunting is what you are after and where time and money are limited, you can close the deal in a day and never be missed at work.

Outfitter Review: Texas Trophy Hunters - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Hugh Starr

Hunter: Brandt H. Williams

Animals Hunted: Hog

Hugh is more interested in the bird and deer as they for whatever reason seem to hold his interest more than hogs. The hogs seemed like a necessary evil that comes with the territory. First time there we saw plenty of sign, but weather once again (lots of wind) plagued our hunting in Texas. Hunts on over 10,000 acres of leased land. Personality doesn't make an outfitter good or bad, but does go a long way in developing client relations and repeat business. Hugh needs a little work here, he seemed aloof and difficult to communicate with. His dad who was helping him was a gem.He was not particularily accomadating given the second chance when we tried to work in a hunt on the only weekend we had available. Made us feel some what unwanted and we were going to be a repeat client.Pricing has increased since we last went and when we compared to what we were going to pay for his hog hunt versus others, he seemed to be on the top side (although he now lets you take 3 hogs instead of 2). If budget hog hunting is what you are after, look elsewhere. If lots of opportunity on a vast spread with good accomadations and food are all in your budget, he might fit into your plans.

The first night we did not get back to camp until 11:00 pm, because we where pushing a atv out of the mud that Hugh's father got stuck.Check out time was at 8:00 am but Hugh rushed out at 6:00am so we would not have a chance to speak with the other hunters that had just arrived at camp, He didn't want them to know how much this trip sucked and the money they were about to throw away.

Game prepping was our own deal too, but he did use his truck to help us get tham back to camp. These Hogs are excellent eating . Great price for a do it yourself hunt. This place was unusual because the average boar was over 200 lbs. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a trophy boar. Varmints were thick and we called in Yotes every other setup, even mid day. Outfitter and booking agent were great with communications before the hunt and made sure everything was a go. I have had nightmares with other outfitters but this one was just fine with me.

Outfitter / Owner: Jim Eslora

Hunter: Joseph Venable

Animals Hunted: Whitetail/Hogs/Predators

Our hunt was booked for a 3 day hunt12/27/03 thru 12/30/03. The hunt is in South Texas in Frio County . Jim has a good relationship with many of the ranches in that area and was useful when some of the hunters had not seen many deer in their area. Jim will go all out to put his hunters in a good area. There were 12 hunters in our party and 7 harvested good deer.( 120 class to 135 class)But there were some 140-160 class deer seen, but none of these had given a shot opportunity to the hunters.Expectations given before the hunt was the hunter should have a good chance of a 120 to 130 class deer. Also harvested was 2 large hogs, 2 bobcats as well as 2 rattlesnakes. This is a great South Texas hunt for the money. You can look up the website Backcountry Outfitters and Taxadermy or e-mail Jim Eslora at backcountry25@hotmail.com

Outfitter / Owner: Edmund Tom

Hunter: Paul Siefke

Animals Hunted: Whitetail and hogs

Just returned to California from a hunt on the Edmund Tom and I already want to go back. Can't wait till next year. My 10 yr old son got his first game animals, a hog and doe. We saw alot of game , including javalinas and coyotes. The turkeys were also gobbling. Saw armadillos, skunks and more great antlers than I've ever seen in my life. The woderful people at the ranch really made us feel at home. They are genuine good people. We ate and hunted to are hearts content. Mr.Tom along with his son JPat own and live on the ranch. They are friendly, honest, and hard working guides. Martha is the breakfast cook and I found myself wanting to leave the hunting area to get back for her delicious meals. You can be anywhere with great hunting, but it's the people you meet in camp that make the overall hunting experience a good one and the Edmund Tom Ranch has both.

In two days of Canada goose hunting, I don't think we ever went more than 10 minutes at a time without having geese on us. We easily shot our limits as a group both days, with some Specs and Mallards thrown in for a bonus. The guides were great, and they made sure we had a lot of fun as well as shot a lot of birds. The Stanfields were very considerate hosts. I'm already booked for next year. Hunts are mostly on peanut fields in northwest Texas near Knox City. The water hunt we did was a lot of fun as well.

My father and I hunted Deer and Hogs for 3 1/2 days and it was well worth it. We hunted Free Roam bucks on the low fence and scored 2 nice bucks, 2 Doe's and a nice Hog. The other hunters in camp were hunting the High Fence areas for Trophy bucks and video taped some exceptional bucks during our stay ... not sure if they filled their tags or not since we departed before their 5 day hunt was over. The ranch is loaded with wild game and I look forward to a return trip. Edmund and J.Pat were down to earth and know what true hospitality is about. JPat had upgraded the open air jeep he used last January to a fancy brand new 4x4 Dodge Diesel. Ahh... some would say "wow, what a luxury", but I sure missed the bumpy muddy rides on the Jeep's front bumper with my hand held flash lights for headlight we did last January though.....:)We plan on coming back again in January 04 for another hog/doe hunt. Outfitter Review: Legend Game Outfitters - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Alison Lawrence Family

Hunter: Karl Wallace

Animals Hunted: Whitetail

This family owned ranch is called the Mariposa, and it is located in Kinney County, Texas. I booked a management hunt for big 8-pointers and was very pleased with the quality of the deer seen. During my three day hunt, I estimated that I saw over 500 hundred deer with probably 70% of those deer being bucks. The ranch takes just a few trophy hunts off the ranch each year ( 9 + points ), so most of the hunts are like mine ( management ). During my particular hunt, I took two very nice 8-point bucks, plus a doe. I missed a monster 8-pointer that was over 21 inches wide, and there were numerous shooting opportunities at other quality bucks as well. Their prices for the above hunt were very reasonable. The hunt began as a semi-guided affair ( transportation to the blinds ), as there were a total of ten hunters and two guides. Once other hunters filled their tags or left, the ratio improved and made 1 on 1 guiding possible. My particular guide was very knowledgeable when it came to the ranch and deer hunting in general. I really enjoyed hunting with him and with Legend Game Oufitters.

I started hunting in Texas many years ago and hunted with several different outfitter's. None of them even holds a candle to Ryno Hunts. Tommy Ryno runs perhaps the best Exotic Hunts you can find anywhere in the U.S. I have hunted with him many times and he is a Super Outfitter in all respects. He has over 30+ ranches and they are large. My favorite ranch is over 7,000 acres. These are not canned hunts even though they are on high fenced ranches. I have taken the #25 in the world Axis Buck with him and have been with friends who have taken several record class animals with Tommy. I wouldn't bother checking with any other outfitters as he is the best and very reasonably priced.

Basic country cooking with steaks, chops, and mexican food for supper. Accomodations were clean and comfortable.Brian's father Milton and his friend Bruce, a retired policeman, were our guides. Both were extremely knowledgeable and down to earth.Brian and his website said his deer average 110-120 B & C. Outfitter Review: Sweetwater Creek - TX

Outfitter / Owner: Jim Bob Little

Hunter: Curtis

Animals Hunted: Exotics

The lodging is top notch and the ranch is very pretty. Very poor quality blackbucks and Red Deer. The hardest animals to hunt on the ranch are the whitetails and the Aoudads. I took a small Axis on the third day of my hunt trip. The biggest blackbuck I saw was a 14" Blackbuck and a 9 pt. Red Deer. Fallows were the most plentiful on the ranch along with the rams. There are several things I did not care for on this ranch. One is the fact that they have too many fallow does. When they put you in a stand they throw out a lot of corn around your stand. The problem with fallow does is that they easily tame down and they come to get the corn along with the Sika does. I counted as many as 15 does near my stand each time I hunted. When you drive up to the stand you see the animals waiting just a few feet off the road waiting for the corn. The same places have been hunted so much that these does know they are not being hunted and they all wait for the hunter to come by and for the guide to throw out the corn. From just a few seconds to never longer than 3 minutes you will see does come out to get the corn and sometimes they come running in. You are not allowed to hunt does, only hard horned animals.A lot of the stands are only 8' high. I always prefer to be at least 12' high. I also did not like the stand locations. There was very little to no brush in front of it to hide my presense. I was on a 8' ladder stand stuck to a tree that has no shooting lane. I mean everywhere you look you had a shot given if the animal was there but they see you too easily because your too low to the ground and there is no brush hiding you. Too many animals and either the ranch manger did a poor job or there are soo many animals that they have eaten too much brush down. When we talked to the ranch manger he told us that he was not a hunter himself. From that I concluded that is why these stands are placed so poorly and there are so many animals. Yes you get to see some hard horned animals and maybe get a shot, if your lucky they don't see you. There are so many animals that are looking at you that it makes it nearly impossible. And even then, as far as quality of animals and considering trophy quality, the few that I saw were barely scratching the surface. I'm not talking about seeing record animals everywhere. I just mean that I saw very few quality animals that I consider good and mature enough to take. I feel the stands were not brushed in well at all and a better job could have been done on that. There are ladder stands(most being 8' but a few that are 15'-16') and 8' tripods. No stalking is allowed until after 11:00 am. Then the hunter must walk back to the ranch lodge. However, you can choose to stalk if you so desire until about 3:00 pm. I didn't like that idea because you don't know where the other hunters are hunting at and I don't like the idea of interfering with other hunters hunts or someone with mine. Which in my case happened on the second day when a hunter walked through the woods about 50 yards from me. Hunting is hunting and I know things happen, but in a ranch operation as this the ranch manager should be doing a better job. It has a lot of potential but has a long way to go and a lot of items to improve on.What made me mad the most about this place is that when we heard a hunter had wounded an animal and the rancher did nothing about it. They let it go and did not let the hunter continue. The hunter had misplaced the shot and did not effectively kill the animal. The ranch let the animal wander off and nobody knows if it died or not. This makes me wonder how many animals have been taken off this place that some other hunter has already paid for to hunt and may have wounded? I feel this was not fair judgement by the rancher because it allowed a wounded animal to go free. That is not ethical hunting to me. Not for a ranch like this. They took the hunter out in the truck after they had told him about it along with a few other hunters from the lodge. Everyone agreed that the animal was wounded and it may die. The rancher could have dispatched the animal by rifle in the least. The decision was made and everyone else seemed to not agree with it. This would have at least ensured that the animal was finished off and not allowed to suffer more. I don't think it would have made it a can hunt in any way, but more of an ethical solution to helping a wounded animal and at least the hunter leaves with the game. On the other hand, the hunter could have just went down to the creek and washed the blood off his arrow and broadhead and nobody would have even known. At least the hunter was ethical enough to tell the ranch owner.

Went weekend of July 12.What a hunt. The place is very green,it was hot,and the animals were wild and elusive. We hunted for a 40"+ Gemsbok for 2 days.Got a shot at 8:45 p.m. at 250 yds. and missed. On the 3rd day we saw the top horn of a huge Fallow sticking out of a 4ft. high grass field at about 400 yds.Stalked to within 50 yds. but he spooked and ran off without a shot.Went in for lunch and went back out.Saw the Fallow standing under a tree and got a 120 yd. shot.Shot and connected on a monster 23 pt. Fallow that was the biggest I've ever seen.Weighed 225 lbs. and will score very high in the record book. This was a very hard but rewarding hunt. You will never go on a better hunt or hunt with a better guide than Chris McDaniel. Also saw a Whitetail on this trip that would score 180+.I would recommend this hunt to real hunters that want to bag a true trophy Whitetail or exotic.

I submitted the ram's score to R.O.E.,and I think he will do very well judging from past entries. Texas has always been one of my favorite States to hunt in, but seldom do I make repeat trips to same hunting ranch or outfitter. Circle E will be an exception for me, as I want to return in the future to hunt one of their huge fallow and/ or axis bucks. The ones that I saw were huge, and it was not just one or two of them. I would go there just to eat Melony's fish filet's made from the catfish we caught in their lake! The accomodations are usually found only in magazine pictures and you will see great wall mounts of various game all over the lodge. I really liked the 10' tall bear Jim took in Alaska standing in the living room. When you go to their Main Lodge, check out their pet turkey and javalina, what a hoot!! This was my second time on a hunting ranch ever. I really like J.Pat and his dad, Edmund, who own and run this operation. They are very down to earth, honest and friendly people. Though this ranch is a business operation, they have the personality to make us feel like hunting at a friend's farm. Our group of five hunters bagged six hogs (100 to 170 lbs range) on the first day. By the third day we bagged a total of ten hogs. J.Pat's truck got stuck in the mud the first morning, so for the rest of our stay on the ranch the five of us rode on his open air Jeep with two seats rigged on the front bumper. Let me tell ya, those muddy roller coaster jeep rides added unique flavor to the hunt and I loved those two front bumper seats so much that I was mostly the last one to get dropped off. Outfitter Review: Montana Rocosa - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Schrenghost

Hunter: Dean D'Agostino

Animals Hunted: Whitetail

My friends and I hunted with them in Dec. 2002. Were told to expect 5 to 15 bucks a day. In three days of hunting, two bucks were seen. I shot and missed one and killed a small eight point. My friends did not see a deer. Oh, I sorry, my friend killed a doe, my mistake. The hunt was completely oversold. My e-mails and phone calls would not be returned. Find another outfitter in Texas to hunt deer, don't get sucked in by the pictures.

Outfitter Review: Las Cruces Ranch - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Christopher Roswell

Hunter: Ted Griner

Animals Hunted: Javelina,Hogs,Coyote,Bobcat

Located near Eagle Pass on the Mexican/Texas border hunters fly into SanAntonio. This is an excellent off season hunt for Javelina, hogs, coyote & bobcats. Expect to shoot 2 Javelina & all the hogs you want. Hunting at night you will shoot coyote with a chance for bobcats. Expect to see 15-30 Javelina at a time & plenty of hogs. All hunting is from shooting houses with corn put out daily. Monster trophy whitetails are everywhere. Pricey as South Texas whitetails are,but this is a fair chase ranch without high fences. Varmints hunting is very inexpensive & everyone will shoot a lot of trophies. Only a $35 license is required for Javelina. Whitetails are hunted in accordance with Texas season. Go on this hunt & you will not be dissapointed. I'm returning with 8 friends.

Outfitter Review: Klint Graf Hunting Adventures - TX

Outfitter / Owner: Klint Graf

Hunter: chris wade

Animals Hunted: hog, coyote,bobcat, javelina

i recently returned from a hog hunt in pearsall, texas with klint graf of hunting adventure. i had a fantastic time and the weather couldn't have been any better. i shot a 180 lb boar and my buddy shot a 245 lb boar while using dogs. i spotted coyotes, bobcat, hogs and many large antlered whitetail deer. we also enjoyed excellent largemouth bass fishing on the property with a 6, 5 and at least over 150 fish caught and released. i would recommend this hunt to anyone and plan to go again next year. i do recommend that if you go that you drive instead of fly as it is easier to drive your meat back rather than flying it back as that is expensive. klint graf had excellent accomodations that were provided as well as an excellent guide.

Outfitter Review: Trophy Tracker Guide Service - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Chris Cockrell

Hunter: Brian Amerman

Animals Hunted: hogs/geese/cranes

I did a guided feral hog/goose & sandhill crane hunt with Chris. Weather was terrible. Not his fault. A friend took a nice hog. We had plenty of opportunities to take geese & cranes, but again weather was terrible and it was closing weekend of season. Next time I'll book earlier. Chris & his guides Terry & Luke worked hard. Can't ask for more than that.

Outfitter Review: Scot Meadow Hunting Service - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Scot Meadow

Hunter: Randy Scott

Animals Hunted: Exotics

I've taken nine exotic game animals with Scot Meadow since January of 2002. He hunts his family's property of about 2,000 acres as well as a number of nearby game ranches. He works hard to get you an opportunity at the kind of animal you desire and is a very honest person. His daily guide fee is fair and his trophy fees are very reasonable, especially for the quality of exotics that he has access to. He has a very comfortable house available on his property for hunters to stay in, if they desire. He also offers whitetail deer hunts.

Animals Hunted: HOGS

WENT DOWN IN JAN OF 2003 FOR A HOG HUNT. GOOD HOG SIGN BUT BRUSH WAS TOO THICK TO SPOT AND STALK AND NOT MOVING DURING THE DAY.JEFF MADE SOME CALLS AND SET UP A HUNT WITH DOGS USING A KNIFE AT NIGHT.VERY EXCITING, GOT INTO SEVERAL HOGS AND ENDED UP KILLING A 250LB. HOG. REALLY A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE TO HUNT WITH DOGS AND A KNIFE.BOTTOM LINE, JEFF AND STAFF WANT SATISFIED HUNTERS AND ARE WILLING TO GO THE EXTRA MILE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Outfitter Review: Woods-n-Water - TX

Outfitter / Owner: Blaine Burley

Hunter: tony

Animals Hunted: Whitetail

Hunted in 2000 with this outfitter on a TX WD hunt. Blaine promises 95-100% success on 17 inch and larger spreads with 8 points or better. 7 hunters in camp and one basket 8 was harvested. One hunter had hunted before and had similar results. People were nice, but all hunters felt mislead. Realistically it looks like 20-30% harvest of a decent buck. Rancher is nice and his wife is a good cook.

Outfitter Review: North Texas Outfitters - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Paul Cantrell

Hunter: John Rives

Animals Hunted: Exotics

Like all the other reviews that I read, Paul, Don, & Brian really are great. Don has helped both of my boys put the 'sneak' on some fine trophies (we always use 'stealth mode'), put my novice wife on a fabulous red deer, and helped me chase down a very elusive fallow buck. They really have fun doing what they do and it shows. These guys are the real deal.

Outfitter Review: Magnum Guide Service - TX

Outfitter / Owner: Jim Roche

Hunter: Jeff Bubenchik

Animals Hunted: Whitetail

This is the second time I have used Magnum Guide Service. There is a reason that I went back and will always use Jim for my hunts. Everything they do, from the time you are picked up until the time you leave, is first class. The hunting is fabulous, the food is outstanding, and the staff is remarkable. I have used other outfitters that promised all of this, but did not deliver. I have already re-booked for next year.

Outfitter Review: Mt. Hide Outfitters - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Steve Purviance

Hunter: Todd Skaggs

Animals Hunted: Whitetail

I have taken several guided trips and this is by far the best one. Steve is a trophy hunter himself and he knows the three most important things when it comes to harvesting them. Quality land, proper mgmt and knowledgeable guides. Most outfitters say they follow this rule, but they don't. How many outfitters do you know that only take 5-6 bucks off of 10,000 acres? My guides name was "John" and not only was he an excellent guide, he became a good friend as well. I'm convinced that Steve and his guides want you to harvest a trophy animal as bad as you do! There are cheaper hunts out there, but you really get what you pay for with Mt. Hide Outfitters. Thanks Steve!

When you got on one you went clear to the floor. In three days there my brother and i seen three deer. Its cheap in more ways than one. If you want to know about this place contact me.

Outfitter Review: Texas Ltd. - Texas

Outfitter / Owner: Hugh Starr

Hunter: Cara Pappas

Animals Hunted: Turkey

I have hunted turkey on several occasions and this was by far the worst hunt of my entire life. The owner Hugh Star has the personality of a goat. I am not a pickey person but a glass of ice was way too much to ask for after a hot day of hunting!! Also don't think about using the telephone...because that is out of the question (even if there is a death in the family) Save your money check out another outfitter!!

Animals Hunted: whitetail deer

I did not kill this year but did have chances. Of 5 people 2 real good deer were killed a 20 1/2" 9 point and 19 3/4" 10. This is not a can hunt and you could go home empty handed! If you are a hunter you will understand. They do everything in there power for you to harvest a deer. This was my 5th year hunting with them and already booked for next year. Good hunting

Hunter: Mike Koontz

Animals Hunted: trophy deer

this so-called hunt is the worst hunt i have ever been on. i will never return to the circle h, i dont care what they guarantee. charlie harris is nothing more than a common con-man, and should be locked up for fraud. i wish i would have found this web-site before i booked. it's pretty bad when you hunt for four days and never see a buck. i will do everything in my power to see that as many people find out about this crooked operation as i can. save your money and do your homework. i really feel sorry for all of the individuals that saved their hard earned money to be lied to and taken advantage of.
