Very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable guide. Land is awesome with plenty of birds! Easy access. I stayed in hotel because of wife and kids but the lodge was top notch and plan to stay there when I go back. Tagged out on two beautiful Rio Grande turkeys and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kansas Trophy Whitetails as a great place to hunt!!

I just got back from a guided turkey hunt with Kansas Trophy Whitetail.Me and my dad killed 2 turkeys each in a day and a half. The weather was terrible however our guide kept us in the action from daylight to dark. The lodge was very nice and very clean. The food was great. I would go back tomorrow if i could get more tags.

Had another excellent hunt with Rod at SEKO. 5th yr hunting with them. First off let me say Rod is a Stand guy, very honest and knows what he is doing when it comes to hunting whitetails, And it upset me to read a couple bad reviews posted by a couple of hunters that just because they didn't kill a buck they feel better by making up lies and trashing his business. I was in camp hunting with Rod on such and occasion. The Hunters broke several rules on the contract that affected the hunt for other hunters in camp. So Rod tells them to leave so their recourse is to make up lies and trash his business on this review page. You have to remember just like on this website anyone can post a review and lie. The only way to check on an outfitter is to actually talk to hunters. Ask the Outfitter for phone numbers of past clients that were successful and unsuccessful. I feel that if a hunter didn't harvest a buck but still has a positive review about the outfitter this is the best review you can get, also beware of the Kansas Outfitters Association. upon more research i found that this association is just governed by the members them self so you can't even trust the reviews there. I can tell you that i have hunted with Rod for 5 yrs now.3 out 5 yrs I harvested bucks ranging from 140-165 P&Y and would recommend South East Kansas Outfitters to everyone.

Hunting with the crew at Hickory Creek Outfitters was my best hunting experience I have ever had in the past 16 years of hunting. I have never hunted out of Pennsylvania before and this was a heck of trip to break that seal. The amount of deer that I saw was amazing. I saw a shooter buck every day which their standard is 135" or bigger with 3 of the days having them within bow range however shots were blocked by trees and the buck would be off chasing doe instead of just taking that extra two steps I needed to connect. The second to last day of the hunt I did connect with a nice 10 point. The meals that were prepared every night were excellent and all of the guides were awesome to be around. The guides were willing to do about anything for you. If you wanted a sandwich or a cup of coffee mid day no problem (None of our crew actually did this but they were willing to do so). I would highly recommend hunting with these guys and plan to do it again in the next couple years.

Animals Hunted: Turkey - Rio Grande

Bryan JohnsonPalmetto, Florida - To begin, I would like to thank Jeff, Lorie, Joe and Matt for a fun and successful hunt. I began speaking with Jeff in 2012 when I was looking for an outfitter to hunt Deer. Jeff answered the first time I called and was willing to speak to me as long as I wanted. Since the first time I contacted him, he has been there to answer every call. Being more of Turkey hunter, I changed my reservation to a turkey hunt for this past Spring(2014). From the moment we arrived in camp, we were treated as if we had been friends for years. We stayed at the main lodge in Howard, Ks. The main lodge is a large house with an upstairs dining room and kitchen as well as a living room with a flat screen TV. Downstairs there are 4 bedrooms, a bathroom and a large living space to wind down after a long day of hunting. There are a few other lodges as well. I got to see a few of them and they are all awesome places. Breakfast is continental with donuts, cereal, pastries, bagels, etc. Lunch was sandwiches either taken into the field with you or you could go back to camp and eat there. Dinner was waiting for us each night after the hunt when we arrived back at camp. Everything was delicious. Our guide was Joe. Joe also heads up the waterfowl diversion of Hickory Creek and really knows the woods. Not only is he a first class waterfowl guide but the man knows turkeys as well as anyone I know. Joe was awesome; we had as much fun riding around with Joe as we did hunting. The time spent with him was not only fun but extremely informative on how to hunt Rio Grande Turkeys. The fellowship and knowledge we gained through Joe and Jeff was worth more than the trip it-self. Hickory Creek hunts around 30,000 acres and they are covered up in Turkeys and Deer. The first morning we hunted beside a deep creek bed lined in Blackjack Oaks and Cotton Wood Trees. The first time we owl hooted the woods came alive and there must have been 8 Gobblers roosted along that creek. My buddy had never been turkey hunting before so he was up first. Within five minutes after those birds flew down we had one that wanted to play. He was on a string but flanked us at the last second and ended popping out about 15 yards from where we were sitting. We couldn’t get a shot on him because he was behind us. We ended up moving down in the creek bottom but had a hung up bird. From there we moved to a blind that we set up on our way in. Birds gobbled all day. Being from Florida, having turkeys gobbling all day was a different experience for me. After about an hour of calling we had a bird come in. Unfortunately my buddy had a clean miss on that bird at about 40 yards. Joe came and picked us up and took us back to the lodge for lunch. He told about a bird that he had been trying to kill all season. He said it was one of the biggest and baddest Rio Grande’s he had ever seen. Of course, we were just getting to know Joe and we weren’t sure if he was just playing it up. We went over to the area he had been seeing him and we set up the blind. Since it was my friend’s first hunting, we just hunted together the whole trip. After that first morning we were positive we could get the job done. We sat in the blind for a few hours when the turkeys started coming out into the field. We could hear the gobbler but didn’t see him yet. When he came over that hill, we knew Joe wasn’t exaggerating. This thing was a monarch. Pat looked at me and said, “It looks like the logo for Thanksgiving in that field”. The hen’s worked our decoys but he hung up at about 80 yards and just wouldn’t break. He ended up strutting that field for a good hour before they flew up for the night. The next day we spent the whole day on that field. He came in and out all day but just didn’t like what he saw. Over the course of the next few days I used a few different decoy set ups but still couldn’t get him to come in. We nicknamed this bird Tony Soprano since he was such a boss. His group consisted of at least 15 hens and the jakes wouldn’t even step out into his sight. The last morning we tried something a bit different. We each sat on the opposite side of the field about 200 yards apart. That was where they were flying down each day. After trying him with a loan Jake decoy, hen and a Jake, and hen and a full strut with no luck I switched to a loan hen. When they flew down, the first set of hens worked in my decoy for a few minutes before moving on. Then out to my right, I saw him hit the ground with two other hens. They walked right in front of Pat but out of range. They made their way to my decoy and old Tony hit the brakes at about 75 yards and started gobbling like crazy. The two hens were at 15 yards but weren’t moving. I then realized how smart this turkey was. He knew what a decoy was. All of a sudden he took off running to the other side of the field. When I stood up to see why, there was another group of about 20 turkeys and he was fighting with the jakes and running them off. Just as that was going on, something spooked them and they ran out of the field. At this point I was mad and frustrated and ready to go home. Instead of going after more birds on different property’s we hunted this bird basically the whole time. After hearing about some of the previous hunters after this bird, we knew if we could kill that we would have accomplished something great. Pat talked me into going back to the blind and waiting. They had been feeding around the blind every day and they hadn’t made it down there yet so we hoped they would come back out to the field after they regrouped. Sure enough, they did. This time, I didn’t use any decoys. The hens circled the field once and walked right back in front of the blind. Tony followed them and I put a #5 in his brain. We watched this bird for 4 days and killed him on the final day with about an hour left in our trip. It was the most fun and best experience I have ever had on a hunting trip. I can’t say enough about Hickory Creek Outfitters. Everything was more than perfect. We didn’t get our limit but we got one of the biggest Turkeys ever harvested on their land. He had an 11” beard and 1-1/2 spurs. He is currently being mounted and will be on my wall so I can tell the story of my greatest 4 days of hunting for the rest of my life. I will continue to hunt at Hickory Creek for as long as I am able to. The friendships we made are fantastic and I am so great full to everyone who made it possible. The Lord has blessed me with many good hunting experiences but this is by far the best. The birds are plentiful and the service and hospitality was top notch. We are already booked to go back in the spring of 2015 and hopefully I will be writing a review for a deer hunt sometime in the near future. I will tell you this, though. Jeff is a very skilled and knowledgeable deer hunter and there is no doubt that he will be able to put you on a buck of a lifetime. Jeff has my info so call him up and ask for my email address or phone number and I will be happy to give him a great reference. Don’t forget to contact Joe Summer about hunting waterfowl. That part of Kansas is right in the middle of the central flyway and gets very little pressure. He will put you on them!

Guys, just a heads up on our dealings with Rod Sullins at SEK Outfitters of Kansas this year….I should have known better but responded to a posting on Craigslist that he had posted back in late July about a self-guided hunt on his family’s 3,000 plus acres in Wilson County, Kansas. He was seeking a group of guys to come in and hunt with him for 6 days during the first two weeks of November before he started selling his guided hunts. It was going to be $1800 per guy.We sent him a deposit and were provided with aerials on where we would be hunting. We also sent out three Bushnell Black Out trail cameras with SD cards so he could keep us posted on deer throughout the property. We continued to make payments throughout the fall and ended up paying him $4500 prior to the hunt and were going to give him the remaining $900 upon our arrival. The first week of November I contacted him to get some additional details and discuss spots on the aerials that he had provided us earlier in the summer. This was challenging at best because it seemed as the only response that we got was via text. Two days before we departed for our hunt I received an email with new aerials and was told two additional guys from Wyoming would be hunting also. The new aerials didn’t include a big chunk of the desirable habitat on the north end because according to Rod, his relatives let their preacher hunt this section. I texted him and stated that I felt this was a “bait and switch”. He then replied via text once again that and this is a direct quote….”I don’t feel good with any of this. I’ll send your cams and money back I don’t need this crap.”You can imagine my displeasure after coming to an understanding on what exactly was going to occur on this hunt and him swapping things at the last minute. He then proceeded to tell me via text that our money and cameras would be going out at the beginning of the following week. This was on November the 7th 2013.To keep a long story short for the past two months I tried to get our cameras and money back from Mr. Sullins with the only communications occurring via text messaging. He has stated on at least three occasions to text; not only to me but one of my partners that the money was going in the mail. I even contacted the Arma, Kansas police department and they spoke directly with him concerning this matter. He told them our money and cameras were going to be shipped after the Kansas gun season concluded on the 16th of December. Finally on the 26th of December I finally received our cameras (minus our SD cards) but to my surprise no money. We have now contacted an attorney to take the legal route with Mr. Sullins to get our funds back. To date he has yet to respond to a letter sent by my attorney on the 10th of January 2014. At no point, from the start of this has Mr. Sullins returned any of our calls. I have kept the emails and text in regards to this matter and will be happy to share with anyone if there is any doubt.

I'm from East Tennessee and have always dreamed of hunting the big bucks of Kansas. I was not dissapointed. Hickory Creek Outfitters did not dissapoint. I saw but could not get a shot at a genuine 150+ class Whitetail. I did kill a very nice deer though. The weather on the first day was perfect, temps in the mid 20's and no wind, I saw 7-9 different bucks the first day on stand, had two 8's and two spikes chassing a doe all around me. Saw one possible shooter [135+] the first morning but passed. Then the weather turned bad, temps got into the 70's and with wind gusting to 40mph, the full moon didn't help either. Still with all these obstacles I still saw deer. The guides work their butts off trying to put you on deer, they know what they are doing and always "play the wind" I never sat in a bad stand the entire trip.Good food, plenty of deer, great guides, hunting an area that has the big boys, what more could you ask for?

I had always dreamed of turkey hunting in Kansas. Needless to say it was not what I or my dad expected. We were to start hunting on 800 acres and were told that it had not been hunted. We only heard one mature bird and there were boot tracks everywhere we went. After voicing our concerns the outfitter said he would take us to new ground with more mature birds. Even though we horrible weather, the outfitter did not show up two of the three mornings we were to hunt. One of the guides showed up the third morning at 4:30 during a lightning storm and wanted to know if we wanted to go out. We told him no but if the weather broke we asked that he come and get us, he never showed. Another hunter in our party was put less than 100 yards from a main gravel road on a Saturday. No turkeys were seen and he said it was like Grand Central Station with all of the trucks and atvs going by. We actually left Kansas early because we were so disgusted. Basically paid $700 to watch tv. Kansas, I'll never go back!

Got in camp 2 days after the rest of my group. There had been a few turkeys killed but no one had limited out yet. By 2:30 in the afternoon of our first day, my buddy and I had limited out. 2 birds a piece! Once again, another great trip to Kansas Trophy Whitetails. Griz runs a tight, clean camp where the lodge sleaps 12 and the food is excellent. I look forward to this trip every year and can't wait to come back next year.

Poor choice for an outfitter. Was placed in a stand first day with wind directly at back. Saw other hunters booked for an afternoon hunt crossing my field of view several hundred yards away. The outfitters doesn't believe in trail cameras and so on. SEK is kind of a ' poor boy ' operation. I would definitely avoid this outfitter.

I was very happy with my experience with Jeff Brondige and Hickory Creek Outfitters. A friend and I booked this hunt together. Both of us were looking for large Whitetails. I passed one on the first day (first 15 minutes of light) that would be a proud addition to any wall. It was just too early in the hunt. On the third day I missed my opportunity on a very large buck (150+) only to see it at sunset two days later about 500 yards away. Several of the hunters in camp took very nice animals in the 140-150 range. While I did not fill my tag the experience, accommodations, food and guide (Wes) were all high quality. I would not hesitate to go back or recommend Jeff and Hickory Creek to a fellow hunter.

Animals Hunted: Whitetail Deer

Rader Lodge offers a good value for the dollar spent in todays outfitting business. With a variety of hunts ther is something for every hunting interest. Pheasant, Quail, Waterfoul, Deer and Turkey abound in the breadbasket setting of central Kansas as well as top shelf fishing. If I did not see it with my own eyes I would not have believed the abundance of wild Turkey. I saw over 300 Turkey from a treestand overlooking a cut sunflower field. I also saw over 60 deer on one drive that looked like a heard of Caribou as they fled a treed draw. This was a rifle deer hunt with a 100% shot opportunitey. The crew at Rader Lodge do there best to provide a good experience for all there guests. The lodge is rustic and located in the heart of some of the best game country in central Kansas. I saw rub lines that had the bowhunter in me drooling for a rut hunt with Jeff Rader. If you want a mint on your pillow look elswhere but if you want a good hunt with a good value the folks at Rader Lodge have a good bang for your BUCK.

This hunt was with the muzzleloader and the tag is good in the rifle season in December and the outfitter has "made room" for me to return for that hunt. How better does it get!!

Me and a buddy went out and hunted with Todd last fall and it was awesome! I panicked and shot a 220 lb, 126" 8 pt the 2nd day and my friend killed a 146" main frame 8 pt the 3rd eve. I saw 2 booners while scouting other farms for the other hunters. There were 5 or 6 in camp and everyone had at least 1 chance at a big boy. It still amazes me that some people don't shoot their guns once they get there to check point of aim.The bucks were feeding and bedding in milo while we were there. You will see some big sads while your there in the muzzleloader. Also bring your clubs, Kent(guide) is the super at the golf course and it is a fun course to play in the middle of the day.

Let me start off by saying how great the people are that run this place. It was a great experience had by all. We stayed in their lodging that was very clean nice looking set up with awesome food prepared. They provided exceptional bird hunting with quality dogs. For those that like to gamble there are 5 casinos 15 miles away. There is also a trap range right outside your door to warm up on.

My wife and I booked a hunt with Stan for a spring turkey hunt. We were told that we would be staying in his lodge, which after we got there proved to be a joke. The lodge sleeping quarters were set up like an army barracks. beds were just lined up, side to side. No privacy, especially for your wife. Stan ended up putting us up in a motel about 15-20 miles from our hunting area and what a runned down place that was. His semi-guided hunt amounted to Stan stopping the truck and pointing to some timber and a quick review of property lines. A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Don't waste your time or money. There were several other hunters in camp and they were equally disappointed.

In 2009, I spent 9 days hunting with Jeff Brondige of Hickory Creek Outfitters. I immediately fell in love with the natural beauty of this part of KS. It's not flat, and there's lots of timber, with just enough farm ground to grow and hold some great deer. We went two for three in my group, with the third guy shooting the last day but hit the deer high and we never found it. Jeff continued to look for us also after we left. I killed my deer on day 7. It was a very nice 140 class eleven pt. The number of bucks that we all saw was incredible. We all saw shooter class deer on multiple occasions. I saw a couple deer from the stand I would estimate to be 160 class deer, but just couldn't get them under my tree. One afternoon I had one of these deer at 70 yds but just couldn't get him to come closer. I also passed on a 140-145 class ten point on the third morning. It all happened so fast that I didn't get a good look at him until he was out of range. If it would have happened different my hunt would have probably ended that morning, but I held out and continued to see deer throughout the week. After our first week in KS we were all hooked and booked again for the 2010 season.

Well to start off, the drive there was great with all the scenery as you get in to Kansas with all the wide open terrain and deep timber. The lodge we were staying in was very spacious and accomodating. Don't let me forget the food, it was amazing, you know good "meet and potatoes" kind of food. Our guide knew the land, met our expectations and was very fun to be around. The only thing I have to say is the Jeeps they drive around to get up and down those dirt roads get a little tight at times. The deer hunting was great. Overall I saw probably 15-20 different bucks in a week and a few were bruisers but either sniffed me out or just didn't give me the chance it was awsome getting a reaction out of the deer by grunting and rattleing. But I was lucky enough to get a shot at a nice Kansas deer. Over all I had a great time, deer action was phenomenal, the comradery was good and the outfitter Jeff was a hoot!! I'll be looking foward to be going back one of these days.

I hunted the second gun week in December with Todd for whitetail deer. He is a hard working outfitter that meets with you each day to discuss what you have seen and if needed to move you to a new location. His lodge is the best I have stayed; plenty of room, bath rooms, a kitchen and couches. The week I was there the deer did not move well and that was no fault of Todd's. He has excellent lease properties that have the deer any deer hunter would love to see. I will recommend Todd to others.

It was just bad luck in the short rifle season and having a late rut meaning post rut for us, none of the bucks were out and I confirmed this with other outfitters in the area. No one had success. Outfitter promised alot and delivered very little. We arrived a couple hours early on check in day and the outfitter was a jerk and stated that he did not have time for us. Outfitter stated that he only took 8 hunters, there were 10. He stated he provided "2 homestyle meals and a light lunch". He only provided a homestyle dinner, (which was very good). Breakfast was cold cereal and toast, which we made ourselves. Lunch was also made by the hunters. Outfitter stated that he took care of the field dressing, 3 out of 4 deer were gutted by the hunters. On one night the outfitter and the guides were inside eating our dinner while we gutted out a deer. When my dad came in to eat there was one piece of meatloaf left for him. The outfitter was also very misleading about the accomadations. The outfitter stated that he had a 140" min. yet he incouraged us to shoot smaller deer which is not why I booked this hunt even though I ended up shooting a smaller one out of frustration. I feel that what we paid for was not provided. Feel free to send me an email with any questions.

Our hunt was excellent in all regards. My son and I both had multiple shot opportunities and bucks each time one stand. The first morning my son passed on a 125 in 8 pt and I passed on similar deer the second day. That morning I had 9 different bucks in bow range. My son stayed after a 158 in non typical he saw on the first evening and saw it several more times before taking it the final morning. On the next to last morning I took a 140 in old buck weighing an honest 250 lb +. Saw 6 other bucks, with 2 other shooters that morning although all were not within bow range.Accomodactions are very good in a comfortable lodge (nothing fancy) with a very nice "lounge"/dining room. Meals were excellent and all you can eat.Jeff Rader and his staff go out of their way to make sure you have a great hunt and that all of your needs are met. This is a very highly recommended trophy whitetail hunt at a very reasonable price.Although we did not hunt them, Jeff's areas are infested with turkeys. We literally saw hundreds of turkeys. The only downside being when they got fired up in the morning that made so much noise you could not hear deer approaching.

I've hunted with Todd Griffin/Pipe Creek Guide Service for the past 3 seasons and would rate his operation as well above average. Todd goes out of his way to make sure you understand the area you will be hunting before setting you in a particular stand. His overall knowledge of the territory is outstanding as he was born and raised in the area and spends countless hours scouting, hanging stands, etc before you arrive. He explains deer patterns, bedding areas and overall deer movement on a parcel of land before you hunt it. Stands are both open and enclosed. Number of deer sightings and especially trophy deer (150+) are dependent on weather conditions and the stage of the rut, but good ones are there. Todd is more than helpful in answering questions, moving hunters to different locations if desired, etc. Upon a kill he handles everything from retrieving the animal from the field to skinning and caping the deer and preparing the trophy for mounting. I would highly recommend this outfitter as I've found him to be truthful and honest!

It's a great hunt for anyone who's rich and wants a 140 regularly don't expect 160-180. Everyone killed but me mostly 130-140 a couple 150s through 24 hunters approximately.

I hunted the second week of gun season in the 2009 season. I was told that the outfitter only took 10 hunters per week well there were 17 in camp. The outfitter advertises that 80-85% of his clients have a chance at a 140" buck or better well no one in camp even saw a buck of that size. The outfitter (Todd Griffin) expects all his clients to drive themselves to and from their stands everyday. He employs one part time guide for all 17 guests. I have never seen this before on any hunts. There were three of us in my hunting party and the biggest buck we saw all week was 100", we paid $2,500.00 a person and that is just unsacceptable at that price. The outfitter never apologized to any of his guest for the bad hunt or even offered a discount on future hunts. The whole experiece was a waste of my time and money. I booked this hunt through McClain Outdoor Adventures (Mike McClain), I used this booking agent cause I figured an agent would know about his clients but it doesn't seem so in this case so to you hunters out there beware.

I passed up on two shooters and had a 190+ at 80 yards, which I also got video on. We went the first week he opens, which is the last week in October. they had unusual amount of rain so all the crops were still in the fields. this hurt becuase alot of the big bucks were staying in the corn and milo. One of the combine operators told me in one morning he jumped 4 150"+ bucks and they would run 100 yards and lay back down in the milo. Usually the crops are mostly up by then. I would suggest a later week if possible 2nd or 3rd week is prime. One hunter shot a 140+ but shot low. the guide looked for this deer for 3 days for the hunter. I was impressed with that, and even got some outside assistance to help find it. Another hunter filming passed on a 150+ becuase of low light for filming. We watched the film later at it was a nice deer. Everybody had there own rooms. They have big deer

It was a rifle hunt during the last 5 days of the season. I had a great time, saw lots of nice deer, no gaggers but there are a few on his properties. He makes sure he doesn't over hunt his land and keeps intrusions to a mininum which really makes the deer not know the season is open! I saw 15 different bucks over the same food plot in 2 days, 2 were dandies (a 140 class & 150 class) that were fighting but wouldn't give me a clean shot. Then I screwed up and shot the wrong buck (120" 8 pointer)when I only had a second to judge him before he dropped into the creek bottom as I thought it was the same 140" from the night before. But, it was my major mistake and I couldn't let that ruin a great hunt. I would reccomend Flint Hills to anyone looking for a great self guided hunt with food & lodging at a reasonable price!

Rod works hard year round to know the deer that are on his properties. He has a great relationship with the landowners that he leases from. John is a young guy, but is very knowledgeable about the local deer habits, and specializes in getting the bowhunter CLOSE to those Kansas bucks. He hangs a lot of stands, and therefore presents the hunter many options based on morning or evening and wind conditions. I also like that he scouts extensively with game cameras pre-season and therefore has a good idea of what bucks are frequenting a particular are. This part of Kansas may not have the number of Booner deer that other parts have, but has some really nice bucks nonetheless. I like that John limits how many hunters he will take per year to a pretty low number. In my opinion, this is crucial to having success on mature bucks for the clients.

I got another look at him, but a clear shot never materialized. I will be back 2007 for another poke at em.

Be prepared for the cold durning the rifle season. I killed the second day. Don't be fooled it is a hunt not a kill. The property is big buck heaven. Be prepared to shoot 100-300 yards. I recomend you sit all day if able. I killed my deer @ 3:00pm. Good optics are a must.Need to have some experince judging deer so you dont shoot a buck this doesnt meet the standard. It was a good hunt I would do it again accept I would try to kill one of these big deer with my bow.

Outfitter / Owner: Scott Young

Hunter: Brett Richeson

Animals Hunted: Pheasant and bobwhite quail

I hunted wild pheasant and bobwhite quail for two days. There were plenty of birds and I bagged my limits on both days. Even with me missing some shots, I was done hunting well before noon on both days. They served me an excellent lunch which was included in the cost of the hunt. I highly recommend them for Kansas pheasant and quail hunting.

Thanks for another exceptional hunt. Returned to Kansas, unit 15 after not connecting during muzzleloader. Of course it was 58 degrees when we arrived, the mercury never went above 30 once we started hunting though, and even dipped to -1 one morning, and if you have never hunted the midwest, windstopper fabric is a MUST as the wind never stops!! Thank goodness for tent blinds!! I have waited 5 years to be able to hunt Steve's Kansas properties and can tell you it won't be 5 more before I go back. We saw so many 130" 2 year olds that we immediately booked that property for next year! Seeing deer is never an issue, as Steve says you have to pass the 130's to get to the 170's. 3 of us scored on nice deer, the biggest being in the 140's, even though we had 3 days left to hunt, passing deer is tough!! Thanks Steve and Cody, see you in the spring for Turkey!!Mt. Hide = success, friendship, great people, adn the best deer hunting properties in the country!!

Outfitter Review: Bell Wildlife - Kansas

Outfitter / Owner: Dan Bell

Hunter: Tom Schneider

Animals Hunted: whitetail deer

Dan Bell is a very honest outfitter who provides a great hunt at very reasonable prices. He is upfront that you won't see large numbers of deer, but that the size of the bucks is outstanding. He has thousands of acres of private land leased for hunting and offers a realistic chance to take a B&C size whitetail if you hunt hard and shoot straight. I hunted with Dan in 2005 and again in 2006. I intend to hunt with him again in the future.

The outfitter overbooked the hunt with 15 hunters hunting approximately 3000 to 4000 acres. There was so much pressure and traffic transporting hunters the wildlife was spooked. I was the one of the fortunate to take an animal a 145 inches, but still would not recommend this hunt.

This was my second year and 5th hunt with Mt. Hide and each time I continue to be impressed with this operation. Each and every guide that I have hunted with not only knows the area and deer but is a hunter himself and his only goal is for his hunter to take the best deer he can. Mt. Hide uses trail cameras more than anyone I have ever seen, so you know the deer in the area where you are hunting. I have hunted from Alaska to Mexico and have not found a outfitter that even comes close to Mt. Hide.

Outfitter Review: Oak Valley Outfitters - KS

Outfitter / Owner: Jon Imof

Animals Hunted: Whitetail Deer

y buddy and I hunted the '06 Kansas rifle season with Oak Valley Outfitters (OVO). Overall we had a great experience. I was nervous about the hunt because I stumbled upon these guys on the web, and couldn't find any reviews or info. Against my better judgment I booked the trip without checking references. Wow, was I glad I did.We flew into Kansas City, rented a car and drove 2 hours south where we met Jon (owner) at Ft Scott. We followed him back to the camp, which was a cluster of new log cabins nestled in the woods on a small winding lake. They had all the modern amenities you could want including washer/dryer and gas fireplace, TV etc. The food was good, steak, chili, bbq...not gourmet but pretty good. A couple of nights we made our own because the guides were out retrieving deer, not a big deal. Jon is a young guy (late twenties) who worked very hard to make sure everybody had a great experience. He has a degree in wildlife biology, is an avid bow hunter who really seemed to know his stuff. He indicated that he is active in QDM consulting and has written articles for many well known magazines. He knew the area and terrain well. Was punctual and dependable, i.e. he was there every morning on time and made sure you were picked up on time.Ok here's the important stuff, the hunting. OVO had lots of land. I am guessing he has 10K plus acres in Kansas alone. Most of the areas were either timber funnels or winter wheat field edges. The guides are very aware of the wind, and would make their decisions on where to place you based on that. I probably hunted 5 different places. The deer were not pressured at all. I never saw another hunter the entire time I was there. I saw several deer on every stand, including a couple of nice bucks that I passed on because it was early in the trip. On third day, after a big snowstorm (12+ inches) I took a really nice 10pt that scored 154. Although I didn't see anything bigger, a saw photos of a few hunters who had taken deer 160-180 during bow season. I can say with confidence that most people should have a realistic opportunity to take something 140+.We had five hunters in camp. Everybody had an opportunity to harvest 140+ buck. Overall the camp went 4 for 5. All but one of the hunters re-booked.I have hunted at many of the "top" outfitters (King Ranch, Campbells, etc) and can say without hesitation that this was one of my better experiences. I whole heartedly recommend OVO.

Hated putting yes to the question about recommending this Steve & Cody because I want it all to myself. Just returned from Kansas early muzzleloader, another fantastic experience!! One word of advice if you book this hunt, get a therma-cell or other quality bug control device. Steve and Cody know these deer in all the states they hunt (Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas). They told us excatly what to expect at each stand, where the deer would come from and the direction they would leave. We have been on a lot of outfitted hunts, Steve and Cody are by far the best, no question. This was my 5th hunt with them and we are going back for rifle this year, turkey in the spring, Antelope and deer in at least 1 state next year.Waited 5 years for this Kansas hunt and was certainly not disappointed!! Thank you Steve & Cody for a great experience and fantastic hunt, see you November!

Animals Hunted: Whitetail deer

Hunting with Kim was great. We went last year(2004) and 4 of us came home empty handed. We saw enough good things in Kim and his operation to rebook for the 2005 hunt. We went 2 for 4 and brought home a 170 plus non typical and 140 plus clean wide 10 point. We were hunting the rifle season, first part of December. Kim is one of the most honest, ethical guides I have ever been hunting with. He prides himself on customer service and delivers. I found H & H Outfitters off a good post on this website, I would not hesitate to give Kim a call.

I hunted in November 2004 and Febuary 2005...Total of 4 hunts. I took six of my friends on guided hunts and we all had the best time. I liked it so much I went by myself and my dog. The Tonne family... pronounced (tony) Was great! There are birds placed out for you in the field but there are so many birds in the field already that you can get your limit even if you shoot poorly. Don't get me wrong, the hunting isn't dificult but those birds aren't easy. Very laid back, proffesional and fun. Here is their address. http://www.specialthunting.com/index.htm

Outfitter Review: Don Lott Outfitters - Kansas

Outfitter / Owner: Don Lott

Hunter: Robert L.

Animals Hunted: Whitetail

I hunted the rifle season in 12/04: Don Lott promised that if I could shoot straight I'd tag at least a 140 buck; biggest I saw was 115. The landowners from whom Mr. Lott leased hunting rights were out hunting the property I was on and drove quads & trucks close to my stand several times; then proceeded to shoot a sub-100 inch 8 pt. within 300 yards of my stand. Mr. Lott had one guide for the 13 hunters he had booked the week I was there(Mr. Lott himself never showed up). The guide (Jeff) said all the other guides had recently quit (for reasons unknown). There weren't enough stands for all hunters, so many had to sit on ground without a blind. Half the hunters had to make their own way to their hunting sites; the guide said it was too muddy to take his truck into the interior of the hunting areas, so most hunted within 200 yards of busy roads; there were no quads, or any other machines to move hunters around. This was the poorest excuse for a guided hunt that I could possibly imagine.
