Suricat Hunting Co.
The Suricat Hunting Co. was formed with one thing in mind, hunting excellence. My name is Willem van der Maal and I have dedicated my life to the hunting business, starting as a guide on white tail deer hunts to managing one of the best hunting resorts in Mexico. I found in my extensive experience as an outfitter the two most important things that hunters want and need, Honesty & Service. These are the two reasons that led me to form this company.
I am dedicated to offer all my clients the best service possible and to find the places that offer the best service and hunts. I have dedicated the last two years researching the South African hunting market, and I have found that hunting South Africa can be extremely affordable, most exhilarating and most importantly, SAFE.
I found the perfect place to hunt in Africa, it is called John X Safaris, and is the perfect place to hunt and vacation.
With a fully staffed resort, ( see services ) your trip to Africa can be one of your most treasured memories. With the affordable rates and great variety of different species to hunt, it makes coming back a very possible thing to consider.
Come and hunt with Suricat and I can guarantee that you will call on us for all your hunting adventures.
Location
John X Safaris is located on the Eastern Cape of South Africa, only a one hour drive north West of Port Elizabeth. Flying into Port Elizabeth is quite easy, with daily flights from Atlanta GA to Johannesburg or Cape Town. From there it is a short flight to Port Elizabeth were you will be met by a member of our staff.

Services
You can expect the best service with Suricat. You are cared for from the moment you step off the plane at the airport.
The resort consists of ten chalets with front decks ( porch ) with the most wonderful view of the countryside. Each chalet accommodates two people, has a bathroom, closets, desk, and telephone. There is a central building where hunters join for the most wonderful meals, and a sitting area where you can sit down by the fireplace, have a glass of wine or cognac and talk about
your adventures that day. There is a separate building that consists of an outside bar and game room next to the pool, it is an open building so you can still admire the land that surrounds you.
The resort is fully staffed, so you can forget about needing to pack a full 10 or 12 days worth of clothing because the laundry service at the resort takes care of your laundry needs on a daily basis. The chef will make sure that you enjoy all your meals and desserts, and the cleaning staff will have your room ready for resting as soon as you come back from your hunt. Other services are provided, like taking non hunters for a photographic safari at the Shamuari Wildlife Reserve, or shopping at Port Elizabeth for native artifacts, clothing and jewels.
Gear
Although the weather can vary depending on the season, a light jacket and warm sweater should be sufficient most of the
year. From November to February the temperature may reach 100*F, still a sweater and wind breaker can be a good idea. As far as clothing is concerned, neutral colors are recommended, shoes should be good for walking, ankle high for support, the shoes you bring should have been worn before to avoid annoying blisters on your feet, what you would get from new shoes. A good set of binoculars are highly recommended like any other part of your gear.

As far as rifles are concerned, everyone has his own preference and that is greatly respected, but from my experience in Africa I can tell you having the right rifle can make the difference. To bring a small caliber rifle to Africa, such as a .222 or a .243 is good for smaller game, a 30-06 or 270 would be good for all game excluding the big 5. A 7mm mag. would be ideal for all game. Solid bullets (not soft points) would be good for small game because it would not damage the skin of your trophy's and soft point or round nose would be ideal for larger game.
Do not forget to bring your camera or camcorder with lots of film, and a backup camera is good preparation.
