Hunting season for me finished last Sunday (11/19) as it was the last day of late buck. Started hunting at daylight, and then about 9:00 I eased up to the edge of a huge clear-cut that dropped away and saw a doe and a buck sneaking along towards the far timber edge. Because of tall brush, I had to take the 250-275 yard shot standing. The first two shots missed. After recovering from the recoil of the third shot, the buck was nowhere to be seen. A 1/2 hour later I found him piled up on a game trail in knee high brush. As the buck had been walking away from me, the third shot found it's mark, right in the back of the head. Yeehaw! The work had just begun. Dragging him up out of that hell hole was a chore! Oh, I hit him with a single-shot Ruger No. 1 in 7mm Mauser topped with a Leupold Vari-X II 3x9.
