| It was the second day of the hunt about 7:30am., unit 10 in N. Arizona on
9/30/00. It was still pretty hot, so the rut was off to a slow start. The bulls still weren't to excited about the cow calls yet. We were chasing several bulls up a hillside trying to call one in with a cow call. We had already passed up a small 2 x 3 that came in, when we heard this big guy coming. We dove under a Juniper tree and waited. A minute later this 6X6 came in at 25 yards and presented my wife with a front quartering shot. Since this was her first hunt (ever, of anything!), she was a little surprised! But she kept her wits and drilled him in the lungs. He jumped and ran about 75 yards and collapsed. He was a mile away from the road, so we spent the rest of the day packing him out. He dressed out at 360 lbs., and Game and Fish scored him at 330 gross. She used a Rem .308 with 180 gr. sp. |
