Osceola Turkey

Hunter: Bill Cartwright
Location Taken: Okeechobee, FL
Story:
My first attempt at hunting Osceolas found me northwest of Lake Okeechobee. I would be hunting private property. First morning out there was a heavy fog that kept the turkeys on roost a bit longer than usual. By 7am there were a couple birds gobbling from a pasture, but you couldn't see them. I made a few clucks and got an immediate response. Shortly afterward a bearded hen come into the dekes, followed by 6 other hens and the bird I took. At 18 yards the 16 1/4lb, 8 1/2" bearded, 3/4" spurred blackwing was rolled. Within 20 minutes I called in a second bird from the same location that my host was able to take.
