Whitetail Deer

Hunter: Drop Tine
Location Taken: South Western PA
Story:
I saw this deer just after daybreak, one dreadfully rainy day. I decided not to take him because there was a much bigger deer I had been after in these same woods which I had saw... just a few days prior to this particular hunt.

It pained me to let him walk by me... well within shooting distance. So much so... I told myself that if he walked by me again that day, I would take him.

The rain never let up for a minute that entire day... and daylight was beginning to fade when I saw something from the corner of my eye. It was him again... retracing his morning trail for doe's.

After checking a newly-freshened scrape, this deer walked right over to my tree and gently touched its nose to the bark. Instantly, he snorted, jumped back and spun around... all at the same time.

As he began to ball-up his muscles, I released an arrow... hoping the rain had not distorted my sight picture. However, my aim was true. In slow motion, the deer bound away, leaving a brilliant path for me to follow.

With this, the downpour eventually tranformed into a light drizzle and [at last] stopped before I began tracking him.
