  • Comments: I have much experience using a single channel multi-track type GPS (Garmin 45). Although it worked fine in the winter woods, foilage caused the unit to loose lock. The unit was nearly useless from a practical standpoint. This year I got an Eagle Explorer 12 channel unit. Although it looses lock in heavy foliage, it reacquires a position within seconds. It is an outstanding spring Turkey hunting tool when following birds in unfamiliar territory. The only negative comment is that the unit has a fairly short battery life. I have only used regular disposable batteries not the rechargeable cell. The batteries only last for a few hours. Although this is not a problem for my application it may be for others. I mark the truck position and turn the unit off. When I am ready to leave the woods I turn it back on and walk to the truck. I am thus far very happy with the unit.
