Overall Impression: Fair

Little River Plantation is a very friendly, family-oriented, basic hunting lodge near Abbeville, S.C. The basic price for a three-day hunt is very reasonable, and children accompanying their parent (even my college-age "children") go for half-price. The accomodations are simple, but adequate (a "bunk house", with a nearby three-bedroom double-wide trailer). The food is homestyle, but very tasty. On neither count is the experience like "corporate sytle" luxury lodges, but it's basically just fine for us. We've been there two years, both during Christmas break (1999 and 2000). First year, several hunters were getting deer, but none of the three of us even saw a deer; second year, most of the other hunters got skunked, but two of us took a couple small does, and again the third never even saw anything. The area is supposed to be under trophy management, but only a couple high quality bucks were seen either year. Overall, I'd recommend it if you're looking for a good value, with a fair to middlin' chance of taking some deer, and maybe (but only maybe) a nice buck.
