Do Not go on a muledeer hunt in the Gila Wilderness with this outfitter. He had told us over the phone that we would see deer every day, and that shooting a 22-24 deer would be no problem if we could shoot straight and were willing to walk a little. In the first 4 days of hunting 5 men saw no deer and very little sign. They almost never got us out of camp before daylight, and the guides always wanted to head back to camp by about 10:30 am. My guide did almost no glassing, and was constantly hunting us into the sun with the wind at our backs. By the middle of the third day I refused to hunt with him any more, and went out on my own. On the fifth day I finnally spoted a few does after venturing 6 miles into the wilderness area, but there was still very little sign. The outfitter himself avoided us while we were in camp, and never once asked us if we had had any luck or suggested any different areas to try. I personally believe that they knew that there were almost no deer in the area and still sold the hunt to us as a high quality hunt. The references that he had given us were all Elk hunters, but they reported that they had seen nice deer. We later found out that they had hunted with him on a private lease in the northern part of the state. During the hunt we had fresh snow twice with good cold days and very light winds, I have hunted many places across the west and have never seen anything like this. All I can say is do not go on a muledeer hunt with this outfitter, he promises everything and produces nothing. We left camp feeling misled, misguided, and ripped off. There are alot of quality outfitters out there do not waste your money on this one.
