I've been to Anticosti for about 10 straight years..I've pretty much seen it all up there..5-6 years ago you would litterally see tons of deer per day..They had a tremendous winter kill 3-4 years ago which really hurt the deer herd. It's on the rebound, each year seeing more an more deer. It's not like what it was, but it's getting there quickly..We had 8 hunters in our group..we killed 14 bucks and 2 doe..we actually should have killed all bucks, but a couple guys went crazy with the trigger the first morning not knowing what to expect.The first five years i went to Anticosti was in the Oct. hunt...seems like you see more deer in Oct. but not big bucks..the last 5 years was in late Nov. we see big bucks..there in full rut and move all day..The island is like out of some dream movie, just mystical, remote, quiet, and peaceful..You don't have to be some pro hunter to go up there an kill deer...you'll get your 2. Your allowed 2 deer...buck or doe..I have found the more years you go to Anticosti the easier it is..the island is very thick, and the first time hunting can be frustrating, after the first year or 2 you'll figure out things, and the guides will take you to your favorite spots..If i didn't know a thing about Anticosti and was looking into going, i would go in late nov..they offer some cheaper packages in sept and oct...but it's worth the money to hunt in snow..
