Let me tell you about my moose hunt in Newfoundland. Adventure Quest Outfitters were highly recommended to me by a friend who had been with them several times before. They have three different hunts.#1 is from the main lodge - Moose Mountain Lodge, which is near Stephenville.#2 IS North Side Lodge which is in back of Codroy Valley#3 is in the interior of Newfoundland at a spike Camp. I chose the spike camp hunt. I flew into Deer Lake, Newfoundland and then drove about an hour to get to the Moose Mountain Lodge. I spent the night there as the helicopter could not fly us into the spike camp due to rain and wind. The chef at the lodge, Alphonse, prepared a great meal with home made bread, cake and pies. The room was very comfortable. The next day the weather cleared and we flew into the spike camp. Like all spike camps, it was very rustic, but dry and warm and the guides prepared great food. The flights in and out were fantastic, and just to see the rugged interior of Newfoundland and the many herds of caribou and moose was well worth the trip. One of the other hunters in our party shot a 16 point bull the first evening and I shot a 10 point bull on the second day. We went back to the main lodge to hot showers and more of Alphonsos great food. I had an opportunity to go into the North Side Lodge. The road was washed out, so the only way to get there was by Argo but it’s well worth the trip - a jewel in the wilderness with all the comforts of home. The staff and guides could not have been more helpful and made me feel like part of their family.
