Jay bought Open Creek Camp from John Billings whose rep as a successful outfitter was only outweighed by his rep as surly SOB.Jay's area is undoubtedly the best drainage in the Thorofare. My partner and I doubled on big bulls the first day! But it wasn't easy(physically). A 34 mile ride in, grizzlies everywhere, tons of hiking at high elevations make this a true wilderness hunt that Roosevelt, Hemingway, and O'Conner would truly appreciate. Eight hunters killed eight bulls in 3days. 7 of8 bulls were hit by bears before we could get them back to camp. Jay and his guides were forced to kill 2 grizzlies before the season ended. It was exciting to say the least. Food and horses were great. What a ride!
