Outfitter Review: Muddy Bottom Outfitters - Bishopville MD

Outfitter / Owner: Christopher Bowden

Hunter: Mark Burbic

Animals Hunted: not specified

The website originally and the owner had a local campsite with log cabins for lodging. The day I arrived at the new address I was given I found the lodging was now at the Guide/Owner of Muddy Bottoms parents house with very rickety bunk beds and the neccesity to share the family bathroom on the floor below. I also found out that the Owner/Guide to Muddy Bottom was only 19 years of age. The description on the website specifically addresses low pressure by limiting time on individual farms, and by only hunting 4 hunters per week. I sat the first morning in the same stand a hunter had sat the night before on his and his 3 buddies last night. There was only one 25 yard shooting lane available and no visible deer sign. I saw nothing. The afternoon hunt consisted of me being shown into a hardwood stand that hadn't been scouted by the guide so that I may find a suitable tree for my climber. I saw nothing. The young owner boasted of hunting almost everyday with some of his high school buddies on supposedly outfitter customer property. The website had a strictly 130" minimum but upon arrival I was told you could shoot anything I wanted. The website alludes to many repeat customers year after year but the owner/guide said it was only his second year guiding most likely because he was still in high school. This was a waste of time. I requested half of my $1000 back and got it. I would not re-visit this outfitter nor recommend him to anyone.

Outfitter Review: Harrison Outfitters Service - MD

Outfitter / Owner: Danny Harrison

Hunter: Dennis Colpitts

Animals Hunted: Waterfowl

Very poor service, Not impressed on the hunt or the guide. The guide rarely attempted to call in any birds, the few birds we shot at we by accident (unknown by the guide upon their arrival). You will be required to carry and put out their decoys prior to the hunt. Not impressed.

Outfitter Review: Ayres Creek - MD

Outfitter / Owner: Ed Horner

Hunter: VINCE

Animals Hunted: DEER

OUTFITTER/GUIDE WAS LATE THE FIRST DAY AND WAS NEVER SEEN AFTER THE SECOND DAY. HARDLY EVER EVEN HEARD FROM HIM, NEVER ANSWERED HIS PHONE. HAD NO STANDS FOR US, WE HUNTED FROM OUR CLIMBERS EVERYDAY (GOOD THING WE BROUGHT THEM). WE BASICALLY SELF GUIDED FOR A 10 DAY HUNT. NO TRAIL CAMERAS AND HAD DONE NO SCOUTING. SAW VERY LITTLE DEER AND NO SHOOTER BUCKS. I WAS TOLD THAT I SHOULD HAVE SHOT A 6PT I SAW THE FIRST 10 MIN OF THE FIRST DAY. HE DOES HAVE SOME PRIME LAND TO HUNT BUT WHEN YOU PACK IT WITH HUNTERS SOMEONE IS BOUND TO KILL SOMETHING. THO WE ONLY HEARD STORIES OF BIG BUCKS BEING SHOT EVER ACTUALLY SAW ONE. ED HORNER CAN NOT BE TRUSTED. OUTFITTERS LIKE THIS MAKE IT NECESSARY TO HAVE A WEBSITE LIKE THIS.

Outfitter Review: B & J Guide Service - Maryland

Outfitter / Owner: John

Hunter: Joe Batel

Animals Hunted: Whitetail

Spent a week with John. You stay in one of the local motels. (Very nice. Holiday Inn) He picks you up every morning a 4:30. Top of the line hunt. Great stands that are never over hunted. Plenty of land. On My third day I shot an 11 pointer that dressed at 235lbs. He should score in the 150's.If your looking for quality with no BS this is the place. I read about him here last year. Never been so happy.

Outfitter Review: DelBay Guide Service - MD

Outfitter / Owner: Jerry Kucharski

Hunter: Bill Bachy

Animals Hunted: Ducks/Geese

Jerry runs a first-class, professional operation for snow and Canada geese, diver and puddle ducks. I can't imagine how a guide could work harder or spend more time and effort to get snow geese in front of the hunters. If the snows are on the Eastern shore of the Chesapeake, you'll get on them. The diver duck hunting is just as fantastic - the gunning can get great at times. I have hunted with other waterfowl outfitters once or twice each, but have now hunted with DelBay 10+ times - money well spent.

Outfitter Review: B&J Guide Service - Maryland

Outfitter / Owner: John Kostick

Hunter: Keith Miller

Animals Hunted: Whitetail

John Kostick runs a great whitetail deer bowhunt on Maryland's Eastern Shore. John is very knowledgable about the whitetails on his leases and seems to have a 6th sense that only the best guides posses. I was very impressed with his tracking skills while placing me in the right stands to make high percentage bowshots. Shot opportunities on whitetails each day provided me with multiple chances for success. There are some big bucks on these leases as I found out during a Novemebr rut hunt. I have hunted here three years in a row on different hunts, early September, early November, and again during Marylands shotgun season and was completely satisfied each time. Deer sightings where very good as the deer population seems to be very healthy.Several large Quality leases consisting of agriculture (corn & soybeans) broken with timbered woodlots, ravines, swamps, and creek bottoms provide for some awesome bowhunting. Treestands where well placed offering close bowshots and hunted according to travel routes, wind direction and buck observation by the guides. This was a great experience at a very reasonable price. I would recommend B&J Guide Service for a memorable whitetail bowhunt.

Outfitter Review: Muddy Marsh - MD

Outfitter / Owner: TJ

Hunter: Mike Cox

Animals Hunted: Sika Deer

I had a great hunt. I was only in Maryland hunting for two days and harvested a nice Sika button buck. It was my first time hunting these cool creatures. The farm house was cozy and the outfitter and guides were fun, friendly and knew their stuff. All 3 of the hunters in my party had multiple opportunities on Sika shots, 2 of us on stags. Great hunt and I am going back. Fair price, great service.Mike

Outfitter Review: Schrader's Outfitters - Maryland

Outfitter / Owner: Rick Schrader

Hunter: Tim Ward

Animals Hunted: Whitetail deer

The first morning of our hunt in a "trophy, bow only area" opened with lead shot from goose hunters literally raining down on my partner's head. After sun up I noticed a dead four pointer laying 10 yards from my stand (as it turns out, the week prior to our arrival, a group of guides hunted this area with shotguns to "clean out" some of the does). Nearly every stand had cig. butts and candy wrappers in and around them. We saw very few animals, and neither of us even came close to having a shot in three full days of hunting. In my opinion the outfitter shuffles hunters through like cattle with no individual preparations being made for the arrival of individual hunters in regards to new stand placements/scouting. DON'T WAIST YOUR TIME AND MONEY LIKE I DID ON THIS HUNT! I found no satisfaction in talking to the owner about the problems I listed above either. He simply tried to explain most of them away.

Outfitter Review: Deer Haven Outfitters - MD

Outfitter / Owner: Dan Voshell

Hunter: Rick Gallagher

Animals Hunted: Deer

If your looking for a deer hunt where you are allowed to shoot anything from a doe to a big buck this outfitter is the way to go. Dan is an honest person and will tell it like it is, he won't miss lead you and will try his best to put you on some good deer. He was always on time and where he said he would be before and after each hunt. I went down archery season with a friend I had chances to shoot does and passed and my friend took an eight pointer. It was a different kind of hunting than we do up here in the north east, you hunt alot of fields. We followed Dans advised did what he said and things worked out great.

Outfitter Review: B&J Guide Service - Maryland

Outfitter / Owner: John Kostick

Hunter: Thomas West

Animals Hunted: Whitetail

Hello: I bow hunted the early season opener with John Kostick. This is a tough, hot weather hunt, in September and yet I still managed to see plenty of deer. I took a doe for the eating and saw several bucks, but they were out of bowrange. The lands hunted were all private leased farms that had some true monsters on them. Kostick's hunters in the past have taken some true wall hangers. I would highly recommend hunting there when the rut is on. The stands are very strategically placed to offer the bowhunter decent shots within range. I would recommend this hunt for someone who wants a chance at an Eastern Shore trophy.

Outfitter Review: Rod Brown Hunting Club - Maryland

Outfitter / Owner: Rod Brown

Hunter: Scott

Animals Hunted: Deer, Turkey

This guy is always advertising in the Delaware and Maryland area for people to hunt with him on property that he leases from a local farmer in Hurlock Maryland. Do your self a favor and save your money and time. This guy is a first class crook and really knows how to screw other people out of money. His deer are slim to none. Just stay away from this guy. He will be advertising in the Sussex Guide and in the Baltimore Sun as well as local sporting goods stores and anywhere he can advertise. He is trying to operate like a outfitter but has no legal papers to do so. He also fronts through another guy in his so called scam. The guys name is Mark. Be very careful of this guy Rod Brown. He will threaten you with the law and the whole nine yards. Save your money.

Outfitter Review: R & R Bowhunting - Maryland

Outfitter / Owner: Rick Perron

Hunter: Tom Kelly

Animals Hunted: Whitetail Deer

Excellent guide, lots of deer and an honest outfitter. Havent seen any huge bucks but plenty of average bucks and does. He is one of the few reasonably priced guides left out there. He gives you 100% effort every day and knows his area very well. For the price and the effort you get this hunt is a good one!
