A group of turkeys parading down our Ranch road 'm Craig Franklin - fourth generation rancher and operations manager - and I'd like to invite you to visit us at the Franklin Ranch in the south Texas Brush Country. I have been running this hunting camp for over twenty-four years, and assisted for many years prior to taking over the management. My philosophy is to provide the best experience possible for all
clients, while working within the constraints of the weather and Mother Nature. Things around here are pretty simple - nothing fancy, just an old-fashioned hunting camp and old-fashioned hunting. But, you'll find our wildlife second-to-none, our guides knowledgeable, our food tasty, and our hospitality unbeatable!
Our ranch is a part of the original Franklin Ranch established in 1868 and continuously operated by our family since then. In 1967, the Texas Historical Society included the ranch in its list of historical sites. The ranch has excellent populations of native whitetail deer, bobwhite &
blue quail, Rio Grande wild turkey, javelina and feral hogs. All hunting on this ranch is fair chase (low fence).
The main camp consists of the main building, housing the kitchen and dining areas, a wood-burning fireplace, a spacious, enclosed front porch for visiting and bragging, and sleeping quarters for the guides. A separate bunkhouse for clients sleeps seven. We have available a 100, 200, and 500-yard targets range, a 25-yard pistol range and several clay-bird setups. All major networks, plus satellite TV, will keep you from missing that big game! We generally close out the day sitting on the outdoor patio under a big mesquite tree, watching the campfire burn down. We have added another three-bedroom, fully-functional camp to our operation for the comfort of those who might like more privacy. It is also located on the ranch, but away from the activity around the main camp.
Hunts are available for whitetail deer, quail, spring turkey, javelina, and feral hog. Deer hunts are one-on-one guided, and are usually for 3-4 days, but can be customized to meet your needs. Hunts are inclusive of lodging, meals, guides, transportation and game cleaning & packaging. Guests need bring only personal effects, guns, ammunition, a current Texas hunting license and ENTHUSIASM! Our hunts are for mature whitetail bucks. We follow a management plan that is very simple: within reason, we don't harvest any bucks until they are at least 5 years old. A few management bucks are also harvested as necessary. Contact me (Craig Franklin) at 361-274-3514 or craig@lonestarcamp.com for pricing and further details on package hunts. |
