Wednesday A.M. This morning I got back in my water hole blind before light, hoping for a better day than yesterday. Morning antelope activity was much slower than yesterday. The same little buck (I think) that almost came in yesterday, almost came in again this morning, then diverted at the last minute to browse off in the other direction. He came in again about an hour later and again was diverted, although this time it was by a doe up on a hillside. The chasing entourage goes past About an hour later I looked up from eating an apple to see several antelope rushing past my blind at about 50 yards. It was 3 does being chased by 2 small bucks. Since they were chasing around in circles, I was hoping one of the bucks would come by for a shot (at this point I was getting ready to take any legal animal). They started coming towards my blind, then hung up about 45 yards out, put their noses in the air, and turned around and walked off. I checked the wind and it was definitely blowing that direction. Lack of activity and unwillingness of the antelope to come to the water hole with me there helped me make up my mind to change tactics. I took down my blind and went back to camp. Came into town to get ice, groceries and Internet access, so I did not hunt the rest of the day. Tomorrow I am going to try some stalking and decoying.
