Saturday A.M.
This morning I went back to the area that I saw the 25-inch buck the other morning and muffed the stalk on. I spent the first hour or so of daylight glassing the meadow where I saw the buck and his group, but didn't see any deer. I did see a buck through my binoculars, briefly, as he went over a small ridge high above the meadow. Not sure if it was him, but it was definitely a nice buck. That was all the action I got at that spot. It was still early, so I hit another area I'd been seeing some deer at. I didn't get to stalk a buck, but I did have some curious does spot me and come in for a closer look. A few curious does come to check me out Saturday P.M. One view of my blind set-up A view from across the field This evening I put up my ground blind where I stalked the 3x3 last evening, hoping he'll come back out two evenings in a row. Well, guess what? At about 5:30 I saw him come to the edge of the meadow, about 150 yards away. He seemed to ponder something for about a minute, and then inexplicably crossed the gravel road to the meadow on the other side! Oh, to read a deer's mind, to see WHY he did that instead of come by within range of my blind. I let him get out of sight and then got out of my blind and gave chase. It was a futile chase. The buck was on the move, feeding as he went. For every one slow step I took inside the woods, he took 5. It was a losing battle. Still, I continued to follow, and after a while he met up with a group of bachelor bucks that I hadn't yet seen this week, because they were in a different area that I hadn't been to. There was another nice 3x3 in that group, and a pretty decent 4x4. However, as before, I was not able to keep up with them and still be quiet, so I gave it up. I decided to immediately move my blind to this location and hunt it all day tomorrow. It's the last hurrah.
