This morning I went to a different spot than yesterday. I set my boat up on the edge of a small island in some knee-high grass. I decided to hunt this spot after spotting a very large number of birds from the road. I went out yesterday evening to set up some of my decoys ahead of time, and I was a little concerned. When I got out there, the water was only about 3 inches deep. I was hoping that I wouldn't get there this morning and find it bone dry. Thankfully, I found it just the opposite. Overnight the water depth had increased by at least a foot, and all my decoys were floating nicely, instead of some of them sitting all akimbo in the mud. The morning started out with a small but steady flight of birds. Pairs and Trio's, mostly. I shot a nice Pintail Drake early, coming into my decoys. Also shot my 2 Redheads early. After that, I enjoyed watching group after group of Redheads and Pintails. Pintails were dropping in from high in the sky constantly. Most of them were landing out in the middle of the bay I was hunting, but some were landing near me and giving me some watching enjoyment. Airboats were running around the area all morning, which kept the ducks stirred up a lot. It gave me some good opportunities for some nice duck photos. I'm showing them below. They don't have captions, as I think the pics are self-explanatory. Check back for the 3rd day of the hunt, tomorrow evening!
