This morning I hunted from my Summit Revolution climber. It was another blue sky, sunny day, crisp and cool this morning. Before the sun came up I heard some footsteps and then a grunt behind me and coming my way. I looked that way, and to my surprise I saw a very nice MULE DEER buck hot on the tail of a Mulie doe, looking for some action. She led him right past my stand at 25 yards....if only I had a Mule Deer tag. I saw a few other Mule Deer in the distance heading back to bed.

About an hour later I heard a deer vocalization that I have only heard one other time, ever - a "snort-wheeze". It was about 3 seconds long, it really startled me. Immediately I turned my attention in that direction and didn't see anything. It was several minutes before I noticed the slightest movement in a small thicket about 75 yards away. I could just barely see a flash of tines every now and again. I got out my grunt call and my "can" doe call and used both a few times to see if I could get the buck to head my way. He wasn't interested in the least. He was headed away, and just kept walking slowly that way. I never could see the whole of his rack, all his tines, etc. I could see the outline and the mass, though, as he walked away, and I was pretty inclined to think he was a "grandaddy buck", that is, a BIG one. Thirty minutes later a young 8-point strolled by and worked a scrape in front of me. That was the extent of what I saw this morning.

A view from my hang-on stand

I went back this evening and hunted the stand I set up yesterday and let rest while I hunted my climber. It was very windy this evening, and I had cows around me a good part of the evening, and no deer came close. I did see a Whitetail doe and a Mule Deer doe at a distance. Check back tomorrow for more action!
