British Columbia Black Bear Live Bowhunt

Tuesday
I'm sorry to say that I don't have any pictures from today's hunt to upload yet. My digital camera was damaged somehow during my stalk on Monday and we didn't get the problem figured out until Tuesday evening. I took some photos with another hunter's digital camera but don't have the right cord to upload them to my computer! We should be good to go with my camera for the rest of the hunt, starting with Wednesday's hunt. Oh well, nothing extremely exciting happened today.

Today I went with the outfitter and another hunter to some good grizzly country. The other hunter has a grizzly tag, and the outfitter had seen several grizzlies in this area the last few weeks. It also has a good black bear population, so we were trying to kill two birds with one stone.

This was our "middle of nowhere" day. We rode ATV's to get back into the area. By the time we rode out and rode back to the truck at the end of the day, we had put 72 miles on the quads. It was a long day. We did see some very beautiful country and lots of bear sign. We also saw 9 black bears, but none of the shooter size bears were really in a good situation for a stalk, so no one drew an arrow.

Check back tomorrow for another hunt update!

Trip Notes
This black bear bowhunt takes place in central British Columbia, in the Prince George area. I'll be hunting with Jeff Lander, owner of Primitive Outfitting. I've bowhunted with Jeff several times previously for mule deer in Alberta. He just aquired a new, 900 sq. mile outfitting area in British Columbia for black and grizzly bear and moose. This hunt will be 100% spot and stalk, which is the kind of method I really get excited about. The bears will have been out of hibernation for a few weeks by now and are very visible out eating new, green grass along old logging roads, railroad right of ways, and other areas open to sunlight. This time also should be during their rut. The scouting reports from Jeff have been very encouraging. They are seeing multiple bears just about every day and there has been no shortage of close encounters. I have 2 bear tags, and I hope to use them both!

Equipment
I'm shooting a Diamond Machete one cam bow set at 67 lbs., GoldTip XT Hunter 55/75 arrows, and Wasp SST Hammer 100 3-blade broadheads. I'm wearing a variety of camo on this hunt, but it is mostly Predator.
