Hunting Information for the 2007/2008 Season

License Drawing Details: 40% of the Non-resident licenses for elk and deer will be selected in the Special Drawing. The idea is that fewer people will apply for the more expensive license. It works most of the time however the actual percentage of advantage varies from year to year. The elk license costs $893, the deer $473. The remaining licenses are drawn in the regular drawing. There the elk license is $493 and the deer is $273. The Wyoming Game and Fish Dept. accepts personal checks. If you apply as a party, each person must apply identically. Mark the box at the top of the application and put them in the same envelope to have them treated as a party application. Please call me if you have questions. I will check your applications and send them on to Cheyenne or you can send them from your location. All successful applicants must purchase a $10.50 Conservation Stamp before hunting. There is a Youth hunting license for hunters between the ages of 14 and 19 at a reduced cost. The license fee is refunded to unsuccessful license applicants minus the $12 application fee. You can now buy one preference point per year for sheep and moose if you can't hunt that fall.

Areas:
ELK I outfit for elk in Areas 73,78 and 85. We have a General Season in Area 73, place "GEN" in the area box of the application. For a Limited Quota license fill in Area 73, Type 1. Consult me for details on Area 78. The application deadline is January 31.
DEER We are in Deer Region H, Area 149. Applications are accepted from January 1 to Mar. 15. The license drawing is conducted in mid-July.
MOOSE We hunt Areas 16 and 37. There is a preference point system, see the note above. Both areas have trophy bull moose. Area 16 usually sports better odds of drawing a permit. The price of the license is $1,213. Applications are accepted January 1 to Feb. 28.
SHEEP The Tetons are in Area 6. I have guided in Areas 7 and 10 as well. There is a preference point system on sheep licenses. You should accumulate some points. Call me and we'll make plans on sheep areas. The license price is $1,913. The deadline for applications is February 28. Moose and sheep licenses are drawn at the same time in late May.
BLACK BEAR Licenses can be bought across the counter in Jackson. The price is $260. There is a female mortality quota and when it is reached the season is closed. The quotas are high enough that we have not reached them in the spring season in the past several years. We hunt over baits and by horseback in May and June. Grizzly bears are increasing in number but they are still on the threatened species list and there is no season on them.

SPRING BEAR HUNT
Inquire for details.

DEPOSIT - I require a deposit of $1,600 per hunter. I never cash a deposit check until after the license drawing and until we have agreed on a date for your hunt. However, I contact people after the license drawing in the order that I have received their deposit check. If you want a specific date, please send a deposit check early. If you fail to draw a license, I will return your check un-cashed. Deposits are non-refundable once the date has been mutually agreed upon. Your deposit is deducted from the total fee and the balance due is presented to you at the beginning of your hunt.

NOTES
Equipment to bring
Sleeping Bag
Rain Gear - Bring a waterproof slicker or coat and pants
Boots - Light hiking boots work well in the early season. Felt lined pac boots are good in snow. Waterproof boots such as Bean Boots are helpful for most of the season.
Hat, with a brim or one with earflaps late in the season.
Wool Shirt or Jacket - You should dress in layers, one of them wool
Day Pack - Keeps your hands free when riding or walking.

All of your personal gear should be packed in duffel bags. Medium size bags or two small ones are easier to pack on horses than one large one.

Please zero your rifle in at 250 yards.
