lk Mountain Outfitters is a full-time family operation that has been in the outdoor recreation business since the early 1970's, offering hunting, summer pack trips and trout fishing.
Hunting at Elk Mountain and Wheatland is done primarily from 4x4 vehicles and on occasion we use horses and mules.
We hunt Albany, Carbon and Platte Counties in southeastern Wyoming and bighorn sheep areas statewide. Most of our hunting in southeastern Wyoming is on private land that we own or have exclusive hunting rights leased. We are permitted for use on National Forest Lands, BLM lands and State of Wyoming lands, where some of our hunting may be conducted.
We operate two permanent hunting camps. The Elk Mountain Camp is located in the Snowy Range Mountains at an elevation of 8,500 feet. Lodging consists of log cabins and wall tents, all with wood burning stoves and comfortable beds. We hunt elk, mule deer, antelope and moose from this camp. Our other camp is at our country home near the foothills of the Laramie Range west of Wheatland, Wyoming. We hunt elk, mule deer, whitetail, antelope, bighorn sheep and merriam turkey from this location. Lodging, breakfast and dinner provided at our home and lunch is taken to the field. Elevation varies from 5,000-8,000 feet.
Our service includes meals, lodging, guide service, field care of meat, caping and preparing your trophy head for travel or delivery to a local taxidermist of your choice. We deliver the harvested meat to the processor; it is the hunters responsibility to pay for the processing. Airline pickup can be provided at the Cheyenne and Laramie and Cody Airports.
Elk - Our ranches are proven producers of the largest bulls in area seven. Our experienced backcountry guides, tough mountain horses and mules, unrivaled knowledge of area 7, and knowing where to find the big bulls allows Elk Mountain Outfitters to continue year after year to provide 100% opportunity on trophy bull elk. Our goal is to harvest mature 6x6 300+BC bull elk. Each season produces several 330-380 BC class bulls with our all time boomer being a 408 BC bull. We are not newcomers to the elk hunting scene and are very proud to be natives of Wyoming, having generations of guiding experience. When hunting gets tough, terrain gets rough and warm weather hits, you won't hear excuses from our guides - we will find you a good bull.
Mule Deer - Our mule deer hunting is by far some of the best in the West. It does not take acres of land to produce big mule deer, it takes acres of habitat to produce big mule deer. Elk Mountain Outfitters controls and manages very key ranches that have proven themselves to be producers of great mule deer bucks. We also offer a great mountain mule deer hunt that consistently produces some of the biggest mule deer each year. This hunt requires a little more physical conditioning than the ranch hunts and can require use of horses and mules. Both of these hunts will produce a true trophy.
Whitetail - You will not find better whitetail hunting in S.E. Wyoming. If you are looking for a good whitetail buck and want to hunt private land that has been managed for trophy quality bucks for over fifteen years then you want to hunt with Elk Mountain Outfitters. We have produced a non-typical buck that scores 201 6/8 BC net and a typical buck that scores 184 5/8 BC net. Hunt whitetail with Elk Mountain Outfitters and it will be a hunt of a lifetime - our hunts cannot be equalled.
Antelope - Our ranch antelope hunts are conducted on over 100,000 acres. This is a great fair chase hunt so invite your buddies to come along with you. We guarantee you will have a super time.
Merriam Turkey - Our ranches offer great turkey hunting during the months of April and May. We hunt our turkeys in the river bottoms and adjacent fields. Some of the hunting takes place up in the rocks and ponderosa pine covered mountains which makes a super hunt.
Shiras Moose - Our moose hunting is conducted in Area 38. This area has only been hunted
three seasons. It has produced bulls ranging from 40" to 62" wide. A
hunter should plan on a bull from 40" to 50" wide. We saw lots of big mature bulls on this hunt and harvested our best moose to date.
Bighorn Sheep - The Wakkuri's have been hunting bighorn sheep in Wyoming since 1964. Our average cannot be touched on successful hunts and the quality of rams harvested in the areas we hunt. We pride ourselves and our guides on hard work, ethical hunting skills, honesty, good clean camps, good food, personalized hunts and foremost - we know sheep behavior, sheep hunting and have extensive knowledge of the country we hunt. Pre-season/hunt scouting is a big part of our success. Our sheep hunts can not be equaled by any other outfit.
We have some of the best hunting in Wyoming and our experienced staff will work hard to provide a successful outdoor experience. Thank you for the inquiry and we hope to hunt with you sometime.
Pack Trips and Fishing - We conduct our summer pack trips in the Snowy Range Mountains where we have two five-day trips to choose from. Our High Island summer camp is nestled in a pocket of timber at 10,500 feet and is surrounded by alpine lakes and streams that produce brook and golden trout. The High Island pack trip consists of two half days traveling and three days fishing and relaxing. The Rock Creek Progressive pack trip consists of three half days traveling and a day and a half at each camp site to fish and relax. On the Rock Creek Progressive two nights are spent at the Rock Creek camp and two nights are spent at the High Island camp. The Rock Creek camp offers great stream fishing for brook, rainbow and brown trout in a great back country setting. We also offer guided wade fishing trips on private and public waters that we are very familiar with. These trips offer some of S.E. Wyoming's best trout fishing available.
Let us at Elk Mountain Outfitters help you enjoy some of the best hunting, fishing and summer pack trips that Wyoming has to offer. Our experienced staff will work hard to provide a successful outdoor adventure.
