A&M Adventures- New Mexico Elk, Mule Deer, Antelope & Turkey Hunts

&M Adventures is a full time outfitting service located in Northeast New Mexico. This area has canyons and top country running on both sides of a river valley which is an ideal home to elk, mule deer, antelope, bear and turkey. We offer fair chase, guided trophy hunts for each of these species. We lease several adjoining private ranches that total around 220,000 acres. This allows us to coordinate game management on our hunting property. We are improving wildlife habitat by planting food plots, planning controlled burns, and controlling predators. Our high quality hunts are maintained through selective trophy hunts and limited numbers of hunters. Long-term emphasis on quality and respect of the game has been the key to high success rate for our hunters.

Located in the middle of prime hunting country our hunting lease includes a variety of wildlife habitat. Ponderosa pines, cedar and pinion trees, mountain mahogany, oak brush and gramma grass are native to the land. Nutritional grasses and alfalfa grow along the river bottom hay fields and in planned food plots. Ranging in elevation from 6,500 feet on mesas and volcanic peaks to 5,300 feet in the canyons and bottom country, this lease is in unit 58. Most of the terrain is accessible by 4 wheel drive vehicles which enables hunting off the rim rocks. Our hunts are ideal for the hunters having problems with the rugged country that game inhabits or for the hunter who can't get around like they once could. Every year we guide hunters in thier mid to upper 70's and usually have 100% success rates.

We are excited about the management possibilites on this large tract of hunting country. Long range planning and management of game and habitat can be more effective. We are actively working with landowners, neighbors, guides, trappers and hunters to maximize their insight and influence. Our focus is to recognize and respect the wildlife as the valuable and unique resource that it is. We plan to improve the habitat and give the game every opportunity to increase in numbers and size.

All of our hunts include private land permits. These tags are guaranteed and there is no state drawing to apply for. Most of our hunts are spot and stalk. We try to taylor hunts to the individual hunter and small hunting parties. We seldom have more than 6 hunters on any one hunt. Our experienced guides are local residents, most of whom grew up in this area. This is an added advantage as guides are familiar with the country and assist in countless hours of scouting before hunters arrive and also between hunts.

On-site lodging is provided in a comfortable new hunting lodge consisting of 7 bedrooms, 4 baths, kitchen and living room. Bedrooms are double occupancy with a bathroom shared by two bedrooms. We have satellite TV and internet service. All bedding, linens, towels and ranch-style meals are included. Hunters need to bring their own personal items.

The nearest airport is Colorado Springs, CO. Other airports are located in Denver, Co; Albuquerque, NM; and Amarillo, TX. Hunters are scheduled to arrive in camp the afternoon of the day before the hunt starts. Hunters arriving early will be charged $125 per day.

Price of the hunts does not include New Mexico game license, transportation to or from airport, the shipping of meat, nor gratuities. A deposit of half the price of the hunt is required at booking. The second half is due upon arrival and to be paid in cash or same as cash only. Non-hunting guests will be charged $125 per day. If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Mule Deer
Our deer lease covers 180,000 acres, we run a muzzleloader hunt in late September and a rifle hunt in early November. We also offer two rut hunts, the first in late November, and the second in early December on two of the ranches we lease that qualified for this special hunt period.

For the past several years we have cut back on hunter numbers to help increase buck size and numbers. In 2007 all hunters harvested great 4x4 bucks with the largest scoring 186". In 2008 we will hunt one ranch of 100,000 acres during the regular scheduled deer season in the first part of November. We will also be running a late November rut hunt on one 40,000 acre ranch and will be running an early December rut hunt on a separate 40,000 acre ranch. Hunters will have an exceptional chance at a 180" and up class deer on this hunt.

Our hunting ranches are located in some of the best deer country in the state. Improving deer habitat as well as limiting hunter numbers has resulted in some great bucks harvested and high success rates. Hunts are guided 1x1.

Elk
Our elk hunts start in mid September with our archery hunt that we limit to 2 or 3 hunters per year. These hunts are very exciting, with a very good chance at the biggest bulls. October is when we run most of our rifle hunts. The bulls are still in rut, and glassing and stalking are our main ways of hunting. In 2007 we had another banner year. 14 hunters were able to take 13 trophy 6x6 or better bulls ranging in size from 285"-365", with 5 of the bulls being 340" and up. The one hunter that did not harvest an animal passed up several bulls in the 320" range.

The elk population continues to increase on our hunting property with more and bigger bulls each year. This is due in part to light hunting pressure resulting in a high percentage of big bulls not harvested and allowed to grow even bigger. The habitat includes native hay fields and alfalfa serving as an attractant. Our hunting country is over 220,000 acres in a single block of land consisting of 4 ranches, enhancing our chances for continued success.

All of our hunts are guided 1x1. We offer an ideal hunt for bulls in the 300-350 class and are usually taking 2 or 3 bulls a year between 350 and 390. All of our hunters are guaranteed private land permits.

Antelope
These are exciting 3-day hunts. The first hunt runs in late August and the second hunt is in mid September when the bucks are in rut. We took a total of 16 hunters this past season and all harvested nice antelope. Northern New Mexico has a well known reputation for large populations of antelope. The large, flat, open spaces of our top country make for ideal antelope habitat. We have had 100% success for the past 7 years on these hunts and have harvested some nice, trophy antelope. Hunts are guided 2x1.

Turkey
Our Merriam turkey hunts are 3 day hunts, with a 2 bird limit. They take place from mid April to early May. Our hunting country includes river bottoms and wooded canyons that are prime turkey habitat. This area may be some of the best Merriam turkey hunting available. Fresh spring growth in the hay and alfalfa fields concentrate turkey next to big cottonwoods where they roost. Hunters can expect to see high numbers of turkey. We have never hunted our turkey hard so they are not usually call shy and most hunters will get their 2 bird limit. Hunts are guided 2x1.

Black Bear
The black bear finds an excellent home in our hunting area. The bears have prospered with little hunting pressure and the population contains a high percent of older fully mature bear. We were able to take several nice bears in 2007 with all hunters that had bear tags getting a shot opportunity. For 2008 we will run combo hunts during elk and deer seasons which will be spot and stalk. Hunters planning to bear hunt need to have purchased their license ahead of arrival as the license is not valid for 48 hours after purchase. Coloring on bears range from shades of black to brown to red to blonde. Possibly half of the bears are a color other than black.
